The CDC numbers are based on actual death certificates so this report will also be a lagging indicator because of delayed record keeping.

Footnotes Number of deaths reported in this table are the total number of deaths received and coded as of the date of analysis, and do not represent all deaths that occurred in that period. Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more.

I am very positive! Thankfully, I believe that the risk to our softball aged girls is not great. We can take precautions and make things even safer. It is great that our game is played outside where we can spread out and the risk is lower. I posted real numbers from the CDC because I think the risk to the kids has been overstated.

The risk is not for them and this is where better education has to come into play. If there were a way for the kids to go play and then isolate and take care of themselves then they would be playing. But when the kids go out play and become contagious and bring it back home that is what we are trying to protect against by not playing sports.

This is not about the kids catching it and possibly dying because yes statistics show they have a low mortality rate. This is about stopping the spread of the disease. Studies show an infected 10 year typically results to 12+ others getting it because the parents and siblings almost always get it and then parents spread to other adults.

It is sad when my 13 year old is more educated than the Governors of a lot of southern states. She knows she can't play softball with this pandemic, not for her safety, but for the safety of everyone else.

Makes perfect sense. However with PA and NJ governors fighting like hell to stay closed for as long as possible to get a bailout we may not be open for play till August.

Some glimmer of hope from Gov. Murphy yesterday, as reported by NJ.com:

Murphy said he “can see very clearly a lot of degrees of freedom in an outdoor camp.”

“(But) what I can’t see are 50 kids and counselors jammed into a bus to get there in the morning and get back at the end of the day,” Murphy said.

If summer camps are open, with dozens of kids doing outdoor activities, there has to be an opening for playing softball. Not full-on tournaments, but friendlies and scrimmages.

These kids are going back to school in a few months. Long term quarantine is unworkable. It is not about eliminating the risk - it’s about living with the risk. This threat is not going away.
