I have the swing posted above so I think that came out of my vault. Here is just one example of a much shorter move out and stride. This clip is a little jerky and pans a little,.

BTW Aaron said in his book to keep the stride short. Like I said earlier the move out, weight shift or/and stride changes the most in everyone's swings. I have enough clips of hitters over their careers that shows this to be true.

I have several swings of Aaron shorting the swing on inside pitches (not extending).

That's quite common for a lot of better hitters from back in the day, and some current hitters. Unfortunately, some people try to analyze swings without taking location into consideration. The location of the pitch changes the reference point of the video.

I know that he is one of the greats, but wouldn't this be more of a case for athletic ability over mechanics? Would anyone on this forum put this swing up as one to emulate?

Mantle with a shorter move out and stride. I would put this swing under the category of perfect swing. I always wished that the swing was complete. follow through.

This swing of the shorter stride? Or the big move out? I see no problem with using the shorter stride swing as a good example. Maybe swings down a little too much.

Other than the longer stride, I don't see a huge difference in the two swings. If, and that is a big if, you can control your body in such a way that you can be in a good position to swing from, a long stride isn't an issue imo.

I see a huge difference. So we are going to have to disagree on those swings.

Fair enough. I see the same barrel depth/whip in both swings but the hand path is different due to pitch location 🤷‍♂️
