Well since this is softball and you've served up a fatty....
I'm gonna swing for the fence with this one.
I gonna guess when he said,
"you can't use your hips while swinging down"....
that he meant,... er.....a.....er wait , I know this.... he meant......aaaaa......
could he possibly have meant.....
YOU CAN'T USE YOUR HIPS WHILE SWINGING DOWN!
Just a wild guess.
But I'm literally no literary expert.
I'm just taking the statement at face value and interpreting the words as meaning what they describe.
Unlike Jul ray's pros who need interpretation to make sense of their feelings vs their actions.
You believe this.. you believe "YOU CAN'T USE YOUR HIPS WHILE SWINGING DOWN!"? Again asking for your thoughts on the matter. I can read fine, I can visualize what he's talking about when demonstrating a certain type of movement. What I can't understand is the inability to use the hips(core, glutes, etc) with the goal of being "down to" with proper FYB sequence, good posture, leverage and tilt. Post a swing of somebody being down to while using proper sequence, tilt and posture.. at the same time incapable of using their hips(core, glutes etc).

I know Mike Epstein says you can’t swing down without moving forward onto the front leg. In other wards you can’t stay back and swing down. Did he gleam this off Ted?
"Swing down" is what's being misunderstood here.. somebody posted a good pic of JD Martinez swinging down. He had a AFAB sequence with no posture. You take that swing, add in good posture, proper leverage, FYB sequence.. but now he's down to, on plane with the ball through out the strike zone.. you no longer see the what people misunderstand as being swinging/chopping down to the ball.

This stumped me for a long time, I didn't get why Trout and Pujois instructed what they did. I played ball for quite sometime and I was like I never chopped down on the ball like they did in their instructional videos. But I misunderstood, currently like a lot of people misunderstand now(Not saying you personally, but in general). When they swing in game or in the cage, they are still being "down to" hand path.. however you add in the missing ingredients(FYB, Tilt, posture) that we don't see in the demos and you have a world class swing. Pros don't rely on TTB to get them on plane asap, they rely on their body, their core, their posture, they are still being down to with their hands... and the barrel turns as a result. TTB is a band-aid fix, and some people will have success with it. But that's not what the best in the dame do, and that has been my argument, not trying to convince anybody to change their swing or what they have success with. Just all the silly nonsense about Pros don't really know what they are doing.

Since we can't agree, what does Bonds say?

Let's start with this piece... What is your definition of "being leveraged (both legs)" ? At BBD I remember someone posting a clip of a volleyball player. Was that you? If so, is that volleyball player "leveraged (both legs)" when spiking the ball?

One can be leveraged into both legs without the feet on the ground like the volleyball player.. Maximum leverage is both legs grounded against the the stretching obliques.

Using your term of 1 legged launch position what is the primary job of the rear leg ?

I'm more interested in what Bonds does... ;)

And I believe Bonds does what he says he does, just like Trout etc. But we aren't going to agree on that..

But let's really recap then

Poster 1: Quoting Barry Bonds, "I do this, I practice this, this is my advice"... down to

Poster 2: Fastball Forum Contributor, "I understand Bonds swing better than he does, Bonds doesn't understand what he does"

Take Bonds advice on "down to" x 100 best hitters in the game who agree, demo, and practice this vs Fastpitch forum contributor

BTW, this seems very personal and directed towards you, which it's not

Lol!! I understand where you are coming from. I really do. And as I have stated before, I appreciate the contributions of the pros.

Okay, I do not agree but I understand what you are saying. Now let's return to this clip. Does Federer qualify as "maximum leverage with both legs grounded" in this clip?
