What check swing of AJ are you referring to ?
It was a hypothetical. My point was we know he was taught to torque the handle so I was just asking you (and others) how you think a check swing from him (on similar pitches) would look in comparison to the Howard/Yelich check swings since you and @Work=wins are saying that they don't actively apply any handle torque.

Perhaps somebody can find an AJ check swing so the comparison isn't hypothetical :)

Not sure I follow. So you are saying AJ's check would look like TM's demo there? Seriously, not picking up what you are putting down with this response and how it answers my question(s). How about the barrel action in the two clips (forget about TM for a second will ya  ) No (active) handle torque necessary to give that barrel action? Zero? Nada? Zilch?

Sorry I thought I already answered in post 388.

Ok I guess you did but I wasn't sure if you were attributing the change in barrel direction due to the core pulling alone in which case the handle torque would be reactive vs some application of handle torque via the hands/forearms e.g. active.

Rich torques it back towards the catcher while Howards barrel movement is a reaction after becoming leveraged.

When my DD checks her swing (hard check- all check swings should be hard IMO) she dumps the barrel big time , especially on high pitches. Doesn't look good. Looks like something is wrong. After review some of the pros checks, maybe it is OK? When she swing at the high pitch she often is able to keep hands in and stay on top and foul it off over the 3rd base coaches head. It doesn't look pretty but she gets another pitch.

Now, now be careful there.. Forced or not the barrel initially starts with zero velocity in the direction along the path to the ball and then goes to a nonzero velocity....
Good point.
Acceleration: change in velocity..... zero mph to 1 mph is dramatic acceleration even though the speed is very low.

High pitches must have taller posture and swing like a helicopter. Can’t try to hit pitches that are up, up.
