Had a girl who was on the smaller side. She was strong and pretty quick. I called her "Beast." She loved it and would growl at me when I told her to show me the beast.

Had another one who was named "Goose." It was easier than trying to pronounce her 27 letter last name that started with a G.

Kid named Swanny that I called Goose. LOL

My DD was called "Chuckles" by her HS coach last year. Sometimes that got shortened to "Chuck" by her teammates. Thankfully, it seems to have faded out.

One of DD's HS coaches called her "Wild Thing." She wore glasses in HS for a while. A local reporters asked the coach about it after she absolutely dominated one of the "Best" HS teams in the area. She gave her the name referencing Rick Vaughn from the movie Major League.

My DD's nickname is Mad Dog, because her name is Mady and she's typically mad as hell at someone, something or nothing at all!! HAHA!! She likes it though, so it works.

My favorite nickname though is from when I used to coach hockey quite a few years ago. At tryouts we had this kid that no one knew (and in a small community was a rarity). Anyway this kid had wild hair and his last name is Fonstadt. So Fonzie it was. It was the only name I had ever called him. I've seen former teammates still calling him Fonzie on FB even as recently as a year ago. That was well over 15 years ago. Also, because I'm a big nickname person, I once called a kid Bulldog for so many years in hockey that when someone called him by his real name, I didn't know who they were talking about.

DD’s proper name is “Annabeth”; HC four years ago dubbed her “AB” and it has stuck on every team she plays for and in all parts of her life (school, other hobbies).

My playing name back in the day was Mudd ... All my players have / had a nickname ... Some come with them, most do not ... Examples: We were short players one HS season and I called on all athletes to recruit ... The next day, Red shows up with a newby and says "Coach, this is my neighbor Sara" = The next four years she was 'Neighbor Sara' ... One gal had a nickname 'Eunice' but I misunderstood and she became 'Unit' ... Another was studying and left her book bag on the away bus which she needed for the test tomorrow, she called me in a panic just as I got home ... We met at 10 pm at the fenced in bus garage and ... Well, she became 'The Felon' ... There's been an Irish, Sticks, Lefty, Weezer, Rudy, Nelli, Buckwheat, Thirsty, Hollywood, Bean, Yapper, Tree, Pre-Game, T, Sister, Smalls, Deuce, Goober, Gomer, a Micki who I called Nicky and a Nicky who became Micki , Tater, Diesel, Claw, Cat and on and on ...

One of DD's coaches labeled her with the nickname "bulldog" because of her demeanor when she is in the circle. She didn't care for that though. Her pitching coach calls her "deuce" because of the similarity to our last name.

A girl on another local team grew up with the nickname "booger". At 10u it was kind of cute. But by 16u, it started to feel a little awkward...

When I first started coaching, DD always referred to me as "daddy". She was 6 at the time. I tried to explain to her that she should try to refer to me as "coach" when we are in a team setting. So it then became "coach daddy".... Aren't kids great? ;)

I am the king of nicknames! Many of the girls that I have coached since they were 10 or 11 are now off to college. Typically it takes a year to find the right nickname.

We've got...

Cornbread (my daughter)
Marsha Brady
Socks
Bubbles
Gabby
Happy
Tinkles
Special
Hooooski
TL
M.C.
Mc Dreamie
M and M
Cannoli
Stinky
Foghat
Water Bottles

and a bunch more that my brain can't process at the moment.

Each one has a particular story of how the name came to be.
