Good Morning I was looking to get some feed back from the more experienced. My daughter and I have been working on pitching for almost a year and we are trying to perfect our mechanics as the Kansas City softball is shut down. Please take a look at the video attached and let me know if you have any suggestions on how to find some free speed and also tighten mechanics. I have been trying to educate myself and any help is appreciated thank you.

Few things i'd suggest:

1) Read the stickies and have your DD start doing the lock it in drill. Right now it looks like she's forcing the ball. Arm is straight in the circle.

2) Back swing could be shortened up a bit. I'm a believer in stacked, straight, and strong. Big back swing gets the body twisted up.

3) Last and not least enjoy the ride. Every time you think you have it figured out you learn something new.

Listen to Joe's advice!

The one thing that stands out to me that needs to be addressed now is her elbow! Look up brush interference, that elbow needs to be tight and tucked to her hip.

@joe720 is giving good advice.

To elaborate, your DD is inconsistent. First, get the IR (internal rotation) of the forearm consistent.

As Joe mentioned, the @BoardMember thread is great. The lockit drill is an essential. Here is another example of the IR drill. Notice the ball is behind the hand at 12 and under the ball at 9.

At some point, she needs to work on her leg drive. I wouldn't do that until she gets better with IR.

Also, it might be helpful for her see pitchers with similar body types. Have her take a look at Samantha Show.

Quick question about the Samantha Show video. To me it looks like she’s not getting good BI. Is that right?

There are two parts to brush interference.

Brush fire--this is the "control" aspect of brush interference. The upper arm contacts the body, which is the signal for the pitcher to start the release phase of the pitch. Show has brush fire.

Brush block--this is the "faster" part of brush interference. The upper arm is blocked by the body, which results in more momentum transfer to the lower arm. Show does not have good brush block.

Some pitchers have more brush block than others. I've only seen one D1 pitcher without brush fire, and she had significant control problems....she would do things like strike out 14 and walk 8.

In this picture of Abbott, her upper arm is being blocked by her body, which results in increased speed.
