Big East decides at halftime that it's a bad look to be the only major conference still playing basketball and calls the tourney at half time of 1st game in madison square garden.

OK, now that is just weird ... possibly a little late at that point. It is pretty bad seeing coaches walk in to arenas and being notified at that point. But you already have an arena full of people and call it at half time ... wow.

I'm going to say some controversial things now ...
1.) Canceling at that point is NOT good leadership. Things should have been canceled or at least "on notice" before that.

2.) This has me thinking a little more about colleges shutting down and sending students home. Wouldn't it be more prudent to keep them there instead of dispersing them all over the country? Seems like a lock down would have made more sense.

I just heard from one of the board members for the local organization (hosting USA and USSSA tournaments) ... we are "in a holding pattern" since our complex is on a college campus.

Tournaments are/were scheduled to start in three weeks.

We're schedule for an indoor USA starting tomorrow evening and another one next weekend.
Also scheduled for PGF in Bowling Green, KY in three weeks. Haven't heard anything yet, no news is good news.

I don't know that I subscribe to that theory in this case. See my comments above about good/poor leadership. I have a bad hunch many people are going to travel to things only to arrive and find them canceled at the last minute. Once you have traveled, most of the potential for damage has been done ... anything you tracked with you has spread, and anything you've been exposed to is going back with you.

Large gatherings enhance the opportunity, but people moving about is what causes the spread.

Best of luck though!

The two indoor tourneys are 15min from home so those I'm fine with. The KY tourney is 3hrs, but I figured we'll hear something before that gets close. I do understand your point though, hate to see people travel long distances to find out at last minute.
