So a hug is assisting the runner? That is what the umpire has to determine and yes it is a judgement call but any umpire who makes that call is taking him or herself too seriously and any coach who tries to get that call made is an arse. I don't care if you show me 2000 examples of the call being made. Hugging a runner rounding third after an over the fence HR gives absolutely zero advantage to the offense...
:) sounds like the umpire needs a hug...

Just have them leave early, no tag necessary (only an umpire who is paying attention)

We're saying that leaving early isn't getting us the calls. We leave ridiculously early and they don't call it.

So rather than have your girls strikeout, have them leave early and just stand still in the basepath. Yes, they should get called out for leaving early, but if not just wait until the other team tags them.

Goes:
record
head to head
runs against
runs differential
coin flip

I had to protest a wrong recorded score by opposing teams book at State last year they recorded it as a tie and we actually won. They counted a run crossing while the 3rd out was made. Was the biggest pain in the rear ever as they had to track down the umps during a rain delay just to verify what I was saying. Took 6 hours to correct. Was first pool game of the day. That win and extra point ended up being the difference in making the upper flight bracket vs the lower flight.

Yes, that was my point.

Running up the score on a team isn't really the tie-breaker. So many other things come first. The excuse of "we need to score as many runs as possible in case of tie-breakers" is pretty flimsy IMHO.

Team gets 1-2 hr break between games right around lunch time 90-100 degrees out.
These drive me crazy:
A) The 1-3 girls that have mom/dad bring them a monster burrito from the local Mexican food place. (This kills me for three reasons: 1. They can't move for three hours after they eat one. 2. I couldn't move for three hours after I eat one. and 3. IT SMEELS LIKE HEAVEN, AND I WANT ONE OF THOSE because my granola bar will last me for all of another 25 minutes!)

I kinda agree. Our team has food assignments. Someone brings sandwiches, someone a hot item, another drinks, etc. etc. Then a few families just go out and buy monster burritos and bring them back and eat them in front of me while I'm eating a soggy ham sandwich with mayo that's been out all day.

I know a coach that was getting smoked. 100 degrees, fourth game of the day. Girls were done. 14ish to nothing. Other team is fresh and won’t stop. Coaches confer, and winning coach says they’re going to play hard for tiebreaker points. Coach of the losing team walks to the umpire and declares that they forfeit. Final score, 7-0. Brilliant and hilarious.

As a coach there are several things during a weekend that can make us lose our minds. Mine is the can of corn pop up's that sometimes pop out of their gloves because they didn't use 2 hands despite being told over and over to cover it up. I played centerfield from day one as a kid all the way through my slowpitch days so when balls get dropped makes me wanna pull my hair out.

Many moons ago when my now 26 year old played. We took her team to all you can eat pizza during a tournament. I think they were 6th graders....Every team in the tournament we had beat before handily....yep after the pizza the girls didn't win another game......should have picked up on all of them taking naps right after they ate...........now with the baby girl (10) saggy sandwiches, fruit, and veggies is all she gets .....we tell her...her big sister messed it up for her....
