All these years some of us have been attempting to point out the differences.. The pendulum has shifted now where there are many more including the best disputing the forced turn behind..

The bigger message in all of this is what causes the down swing they all speak of ?

During BP Barry tells JF ‘ I get into a position so if the ball is here, I’m here, if it’s here I’m here’. Hitting in a nutshell. He even shows the depth at where he wants his delivery of the barrel.

I'll just say "Down to" is only true if they show the rest of the body actually supporting the swing. If they were trying to really shift the pendulum then they should do a better job when demoing how its done. Otherwise it's sets up confusion when discussing these things. If you have Bonds saying I'm going to drop the bat. or puljos saying it in his demo or Arod doing the same thing then they need to realize that they have good intentions and are probably correct but are presenting a poor illustration of what they are meaning by "down to". Which is obviously poor when looking at their demos of how its done, compared to when they swing the bat in game. I don't think anything is "Creating the down to" It simply a action they are truly feeling in combination of the rest of the body at work. It's like trying to fight G-force on a roller coaster.

Yea, and why fight the force generated by the core with another force (barrel turn) ? Theres a good chance the barrel will be dumped off the roller coaster.

Now you are talking a personal preference in feeling and how much control a player likes to feel. Some do a better job and are more comfortable trying to fight the g-force vs other's who don't need that. This is getting to the heart of it and is just like the Kobe analogy I presented. You start feeling out of control and to loose, got to get it back in line by making an adjustment.

Have the hitter hit line drives using very high tee and very low tee drills will allow them to understand and feel down too and thru without clogging up their heads with too much info. The swing changes depending on pitch location. We have all seen a great batters get fooled and somehow manage to get the barrel on the ball. It doesn't look pretty but greats do it. Practice ugly.

Some people don't understand ferris wheel.. however I think most pros don't talk about it because they are focusing on "down to"... what happens to the barrel is the result, not forced. I am a firm believer in perfecting upstream actions that influence down stream results. Forcing results is not the right approach IMO

2:04 this video..

btw, another power hitter pro practicing UTM and oppo

Maybe it's a tomAto /tomAHto thing?
I experienced this with my dd. 100% focus on hitting the ball in the air at 25 degrees +. But the transition from front toss to game speeds in upper levels resulted in getting under too many balls. At the slower speed the ball naturally falls more so she would match her hand level to the height of the ball and then the ball would fall into her bat that was swinging beneath her hands. It wasn't obvious and after 1000's of front toss balls seemed perfect.
But at game speed, if she matched her hands to the level of the ball, the bat was often beneath the ball because the ball didn't fall into the bat that was naturally swinging beneath her hands
Only one way to fix the problem but different understandings. You could tell her to hit down on the ball and she would keep her hands higher so as to swing "down." Or what she did was recognize that the bat naturally rotated beneath her hands, so she kept them above the ball.
"Feel" was hit down.
"Real" was understanding that the bat rotates beneath hands so keep the hands above the ball. Not a downward swing but a recognition of what is actually happening and adjusting accordingly.

Real is hands “down to”, what happens to the barrel is a result, Hands “down to” is not feel. How can it just be feel when that’s what the pros Intend to do, practice doing and that’s what we see in their swing? How more real can something be?

So if the hands move down then the barrel will drag behind. Simple physics. Then why are there so many pics with pros before or at contact with the the barrel below their hands? Even the guys who say they hit down, chop down on the ball.
All these pics are in series showing the barrel ascending to the ball.
