Who is the well known fastpitch lessons guru-coach in the San Francisco Bay Area? My google searches haven’t netted great results, thus far. We have a pitching coach who’s pretty good, but we’re looking for that guru coach. Please, give me some names if you have‘m. : )

So what's prompting finding another coach? Is she not progressing anymore? What age? is she struggling with movement pitches?

I too have often wondered what that means. I hear it a lot from people: "Our local coach is really good at getting pitchers started then he/she is out of their depth at a certain point."

Obviously I'm paraphrasing but I hear that a lot and I don't understand. How can a coach be good for just a little while? EVERYTHING done in the foundations of learning effects what can or cannot happen later in development. So are we talking about a coach that can teach girls to simply "Throw strikes", which is easy if you don't care about developing into an actual pitcher. Or, are we talking about a coach who's students play in a league with very weak hitting so the young pitchers appear better than they are?

I'm not suggesting every pitching coach needs a Rich Balswick resume (world tournaments, US National team pitcher, etc, etc) but, I'd really like to understand why some coaches are only good for a certain amount of time.

Just a simple question. Everything is progressing just fine. I wasn’t pulling up any names from google searches. Not looking for YT videos, but thanks. Oh well, drop some names if you have them - for private lesson.

This was our experience. Coaches that know enough drills etc. to help rec girls throw strikes. With most of the talented hitters already in travel that's all you need to get by. Then the pitcher moves on to travel an realizes very quickly they need a new coach!

santafe, if I may.... I think the YouTube comment was just so you could look up the coach there, see what he/she is all about and decide if it's an avenue you wanted to pursue. Not to learn from YouTube.

I'd be remiss if I didn't say, I'm not sure you'd have what you're looking for to just go see Balswick or anyone else for a single lesson. Moreover, it'd be even harder if you went to a new coach AND continued with the old. In very few cases, unfortunately, would you have 2 coaches working TOGETHER instead of making your DD go back and forth with their instructions. It'd be nice if everyone had the same info and it was just a matter of a personality fit with the coaches, but that's not the case.

Well, so far, DD has rec ball, travel ball, and select team experience at the 10U level. We started pitching lessons with a HS varsity player, moved on to a HS varsity coach, and have spent some time learning from a college softball coach. All of these coaches were found through referrals. It is interesting to experience how each pitching coach teaches their lessons - all have completely different styles, which was expected. Now, we’re searching for local fastpitch gurus who can private teach/coach to all levels of experience. Our current search is more of a ”recon mission” to see who’s out there.

In addition to Rich Balswick, there are Kristina Thorson in Walnut Creek and Bill Gaito in Marin.
