You want her to talk to a potential college coach about how awful her HS ball experience is and they haven’t even had tryouts yet? Good luck with that.

Quit listening to the rumors and bitching of the other parents that thrive on the drama. Or at least don’t repeat it in front of your daughter.

She was on the team least year, been there down that. This isn’t rumors or here say. No actual practice for the team, especially the bench players. Why would it be different this year?? Same coach. Same group for the most part.

DD claims that our HS practices are not productive. But she may be comparing it to her travel practices which are 100% full throttle. I told her that HS is not a place to learn the game, more a place to play for school spirit.
One question, what was your HS's record last season?

6-10. I also understand, and she does too, that HS is more about school spirit. But it just sucks when your kid goes to practice and busts it and gets basically ignored. She’s not a trouble maker either. She’s actually pretty much an introvert but will talk to people. She’s just a little shy in social situations outside of softball. She’s ok with her small circle. She’s ok with herself and doing her thing. On the field (comfort zone?) she’s a pretty good talker/cheerleader. The girls aren’t mean to her, she just doesn’t socialize much with them outside of softball. I think the frustration lies with the lack of actually doing something productive at practice. She’s trying to get ready for the TB season. If she actually was going and getting some decent reps she would suck it up cheerlead off the bench. Honestly I’ve seen 10u teams practice harder.

So Cal
I know a few very good HS-age players who choose to play a different sport during the school softball season, mostly because of team/coach issues with the school team. Summer and fall is all about softball with their TB team, and working towards getting recruited.

Darn this crappy scenario!!!

What area is this?

High School ball in so cal is almost irrelevant to continuing travel ball and showcasing to network into college.

Northeast. One college coach told her to not even bother sending him her school schedule. (She wasn’t going to.)

If your DD serious about playing in college, play with a good travel team. You’ll get more exposure for college than high school games. If DD wants to play HS ball, just look at it as practice everyday. Plenty of girls play in college off of TB, never playing HS. Good luck

My thoughts exactly. Then why play? High School ball means next to nothing to college coaches, if that's your goal. Other than getting to play with her school friends, there's no valid reason do play.

Yes that’s exactly what it is. She just needs something to do to get ready for summer. She’s probably going to just go and tough it out.

College coaches cannot go to HS games, in most places. In the NE USA, the seasons are the same so the college coach is worried about his own season, doesn't have time for recruiting. And I'm pretty sure the NCAA recruting calendar disallows coaches to go to HS games this time of year. I think there's only 5 states in the country that play HS ball in the fall and only Iowa plays HS ball in the summer. But the recruting calendar tells when coaches are even ALLOWED to recruit. I'm fairly certain they can't, even if they wanted to right now.

I'm not seeing an upside to toughing it out. Find another activity/sport, and continue to work on hitting. She will probably go into the summer TB season with a new level of passion and freshness.

" Almost irrelevant" ?????? Come on man!

Huntington HS, Edison HS, Los Alamitos HS, Mater Dei HS, Orange Lutheran HS, Santa Margarita HS, Cypress HS and many more teams are extremely competitive. Most have a starting pitchers and many of their players committed to a D-1. CIF games are insanely intense and will have 200 to 300 plus spectators easily. Far from irrelevant. Orange County takes their HS softball pretty seriously.
