Signaling inside or outside to the batter before the pitch. Saw it in a HS tournament recently. Other team was doing it. What are everyone's thoughts?

I think it’s bushleague to actually steal signs BUT see plenty of teams that do the second base calling ...most of the time it’s not actual pitch sign stealing but catcher setting up too early - if the catcher sets up early then i think it’s fair game - catcher need to adjust and learn not to give it away

If it’s actual pitch stealing well .. Astros are poster children for bushleague... if I was a college coach seeing players steal signs I wouldn’t want them in my crew.. character does count

Catcher needs to call time and talk to her pitcher and switch her location sign. Happened to us at a college showcase. Wonder what, if anything, the college coaches thought....

Did I mention this was a pre-season "knock the rust off" friendly with no awards or anything. AND this was a pool game on top of that.

You are lucky that the game did not count. Now the H.S. has time to fix the issue before the season starts.

Stealing signs from 2nd base is part of the game. The coach, pitcher, and catcher need to come up with a better system than calling inside, and outside pitches by touching the catcher's leg. That is something I would expect to see in a 10u softball game.

LOL! What do you think the girls on the bench are doing???? And why do you think the players are tracking pitches??? Coaches rely on these players that are not playing to help pick up "tells" and to "figure out" signs to gain an advantage. It goes on in every level of play. The coach look at signs, the pitcher's grip, defensive alignment, the batter's warm up swings, her previous tendencies....etc. Why? To gain an advantage. If your signs are easy to figure out, then you better adjust.
