What actually do you call the style that Coach Lisle teaches and why do a lot of softball coaches hate it?

i think "Matt's" swing really isn't all that different than most - it's all in HOW he teaches it that sets him apart from others and makes his stuff very useful for me as a coach

I've seen multiple instructors and coaches teaching the same basic swing......for me it's all in the how....

either way I like Matt both as an instructor and as a guy - I've met him a few times, took my two eldest DD's to one of his clinics, they worked with him in a group of 20 and I was there as a coach - and he was great to work with

With Lisle if the player hits the ball well it is "the new swing" that he taught them. If they hit the ball poorly it is "your old swing". He has some good insights and very good at marketing, but he is an opportunist and is in it for what is good for him. Nothing more.

Old school coaches teaching "hit down on the ball" and "hit something hard on the ground" and calling a hitters swing preschool are stuck in 1975 when pitchers dominated and contact was the goal. These coaches are lazy, ignorant, know it all and self righteous. There is no excuse and it is unacceptable IMO. Most these old school coaches are also generally loud, obnoxious, and use degradation as a coaching style. Run from it.

I teach swing down. For a direct and efficient path. Not for GBs. I love 80’s baseball before PEDs. Guess I’m ignorant. Or maybe more informed? Subjective I guess.

Nice post Riseball.. Lisle is about Lisle. He learned from Wallenbrock.

Yes coaches teaching swing down for ground balls are misunderstanding what swinging down is IMO. Some people take things way too literal

At the point of contact is the barrel descending (getting closer to the ground) or ascending or about level? Some like to let the ball get deep and therefore have to TTB earlier and some want to hit it more out in front and TTB later but at contact the barrel is ???

I like 60s, 70s and 80s baseball too but that is not where the game is at now. There is no such thing as the ole "two out rally , hit it up the alley". Its strike out or hit it out. Very few contact hitters make to the bigs. Fortunately for us Angel fans, we have David Fletcher who is a real throwback.

This describes the former coach’s style to a tee. We ran. We landed on a different team. The new head coach is (I don’t want to say old) let’s say he’s been around awhile. He doesn’t like it but he says he’s not going to mess with it.

Spending a while living in your car will motivate some people to become determined for personal success. I definitely agree that he has done a very good job marketing himself. Personally, I think his content is pretty solid, but it has evolved over the years that I've been following him.
