My 10 Year DD has been pitching for a couple of years and has pretty decent control but definitely needs to work on her posture. She has a tendency to lean into the arm release. We see a PC from time to time and haven't seen her in a few months. Today she saw here and the PC has changed over to teaching the IR method of pitching. My question is, is this method too advanced to start teaching a 10YO?

Thanks
Dave

Nope. I have several kids even younger than 10 doing it and doing it well! Enjoy the ride! Focus on process and not outcomes! It won’t take her long to pick it up!

IR/whip is a bottom line. It’s efficient, safe and with brush; makes speed, control and spins much easier to achieve.

Imagine trying to hit a ball with straight arms and little/no bat lag, then trying to snap the bat at contact. You will struggle to get the ball out of the infield.

Same with HE. A wrist snap alone will barely get the ball to travel a few feet. If you lock your upper arm to your side and flip the ball with your lower arm and no wrist snap, you can fling the ball pretty hard.

Dive in head first and never look back. The very first time she whips the ball to you on a bucket will be eye opening for you.

I've taught kids younger than that, along with a bunch of 10 year olds. IR actually works the way your body is designed to work so it should be easier to pick up. All the "face the ball toward second/hellow elbow/slam the door" stuff is artificially imposed.

Kudos to your PC, by the way, for changing the way she teaches when she found something better. Not all are willing to do that. You have a keeper there.
