We will be holding our 3rd tournament this summer and i am trying to figure out what food to have available for purchase. 3 locations, 2 will have grilles for dogs and burgers. so I'm thinking were all set there. Lots of leftover chips last year so I'm thinking dogs, burgers and drinks. In the 3rd location we got a deal and sold pizza. Didnt sell all of it and don’t think the $80 profit was worth all the extra effort.
so my question to all of you- what kind of food is popular/sells well at tournaments? We will be having U14s and U18s.. Saturday U14s at fields with grilles and Sunday U18s are at those fields. I'd like to have drinks and snack food available at the fields without grilles. also-whats the going rate for a cheeseburger?
we are located in NewEngland and the tournament is in July.
any recommendations?
tia!

We do a lot of pulled pork in the Midwest tournaments. You can cook it up early and freeze in zip top or vac packs. Then thaw as needed pretty quickly. Sells well and if you have someone who is good at smoking meat, often people will buy your leftovers in bulk afterward.

Profit share with some of your local food trucks and/or taco vendors. Very successful at tourneys we have been to.

We have been toying around with the idea of food trucks and working out some sort of profit share deal with them. If anyone has experience with this, any suggestions as far as what sort of deal you've done in the past would be very welcome.

I was thinking of doing pulled pork, but i forgot about it. I BBQ it overnight and it typically comes out great! Works well as leftovers too, i could do as you say and freeze it ahead of time, and then have a crock pot at the field!

I would say pulled pork is a solid option plus would be pretty profitable. Can get a lot of pork for pretty cheap $/pound.

I would suggest using one of those bigger roaster type pans instead of crockpots if you think you will need a lot. Could probably fit about 8 crockpots worth of pulled pork into 1 roaster.

Good point! I was thinking about a single burner gas cooktop that i have with a pot, but i could use my “tailgaiting” portable gas grille and use a large Roaster-type pot.
(now i just have to get my hickory contact on board and i can start practicing!) This is awesome, thank you!
