Also Shawn, what do you think of blast factor reading. Doesnt seem to be accurate.
The newer app doesn’t have Blast factor. The new app is about swing insights, plane, connection and rotation. It grades your average 20 to 80 depending on the level of play you select. For example you don’t want to put a 10u against a professional players metrics.

Blast sensor measures time to ball. Not sure how it does it or if it is accurate. What is a good time? Think my 12 y/o DD is at .18. I generally just look at batspeed. She is at 46 to 48. She is on the smaller side. Under 80 lbs.
I purchased the extra metrics. You can unlock all the metrics. I can measure rotational acceleration (early batspeed or how long it takes you to go from load and into the swing), time to contact (initiation to contact), batspeed and even ball flight metrics (launch angle, ball exit speed and estimated distance).

It sounds like your using an old app.

When training sprinters, do we just tell them to just run faster? Or do we train conservation of energy? Energy transfer

Not according to the pros. The barrel follows the hands. Wherever the hands go the barrel follows. Don’t drop your hands! Get on top! Stay inside! Don’t cast! What controls all these cues? Hands? Barrel? Spine? Shoulders?

If you want to say the body sets the plane , then I’ll say the pitch sets the plane. Then you can say the eyes. Then I can say the brain. And on and on. We can do this all day. Not interested in that.

From a physical external feel, the hands do it. Ask any good pro.
I heard Sheffield say wherever the lead elbow goes the swing follows. The lead arm is always in plane with posture in a good swing. Unless your guiding the swing with the hands. The hands have very low effect on hitting or guiding the barrel to the ball.

Come on guys. So how do we stay inside the ball again? With a elbow path? A shoulder path? Or a hand path? And how do we stay on top? With our lead elbow ? Why would Barry Bonds speak of his top hand and also say that keeping his HANDS up is most important?

The hands matter more than anything.

Ortiz on planing his hands inside the ball.

Barry on not dropping his hands and not breaking down the problem( Bobby, something to think about).

Side note guys: all of Barry’s keys are about the conservation of energy and efficient force production, Wow. Pretty cool huh 😎?

Stay straight my friends ! Like Barry says 😉

WW,

Rod Carew does say it's all about the hands in his book. I'll dig it out and quote him.

WW,

I can't find the spot where he talks about the hands. If I remember he said you want to keep the body quiet and use the hands at 100%. I'll read the book and get back to exactly what he says.

I do agree with body being at 80% effort and the hands at 100% theory. That's the energy flow bigger muscles transferring their energy into the arms/hands. And like focusing on the hands to much can create issues, over swinging with the body can create issues.

I love talkin hands with players. The feel of the loading the barrel and creating a whip/axe like release is fun to watch. I get many players that either pull off the outside pitch or can’t pull the inside pitch.

Once the hands start controlling the barrel. Kids learn pretty quickly how to lengthen or shorten their barrel according to pitch location.

I know I am in the minority here. Oh well.

WW,

Still reading, here is one of his keys to good hitting, Use your hands, become an aggressive hands hitter. This allows you to wait longer on the pitch and react to changes in pitch direction, both horizontally and vertically in the strike zone.

Why stride?
Why forward momentum?
Why coil?
Why forward yet back?
Why turn the barrel?
Just plane your hands. Any plane will do. Just draw a straight line and launch the hands.
A to B.
Adjustability built in.
Conserve energy
Force production
Bat speed is over rated.
Time to contact.
Be quick.
Acceleration is everything, not speed.
No front arm, no rear arm, no legs.
All hands all the time!
No physics. That's science and girls aren't good at science.
Hitting is magic. Intent is important. Just try harder. But not too hard.
After all..... Work = Wins
And don't forget to work on your speed to first.
Because what I just described is a bunt.
Lol!
