I think I get it now. Getting to the position with the rear foot more towards third sets the proper angle 45 of the body to be maintained. This allows a player not to have to prematurally or over rotate open which would throw off posture. Throwing off posture and the body angle takes away the ability to brush etc. This is often seen when a player has to stick their butt out etc.

By golly I think he’s got it.
You got it. Have to start right to finish right. HE pitchers are taught to get open. Sideways. Then close. Too much can go wrong with the timing of that. Why not just stay at 45. Allow upper to open and close naturally which creates momentum.

I think part of my issue is what open and close means in pitching. its opposite of hitting. Open in pitching is chest towards 3rd and close towards home. Hitting, it would be the opposite closed would be to third and open toward home.

You wouldn't be the first to be confused by the terminology, trust me.

For the power line work....Make sure her lead foot is set at the angle you want the hips...somewhere between 30 and 55 typically. 45 is a good enough starting point.

Don't worry about the angle of the back foot so much. Instead, once she is set, have her shift her weight so 90% of it is on the front leg. Make sure she stays stacked on the front leg and doesn't get too far forward. Nose always behind toes. I think Javasource actually recommends getting the back foot "on point", meaning up on the toe.

What this does is allow the hips to settle naturally at the angle set by the front foot and more accurately simulates an actual pitching position.

gets stack on the front leg but stay behind. I like the nose behind toes.

Hi guys yesterday was my DD fist day back after taking a break from softball. Now she will actually be working to learn to pitch. Below is a video. I was wanting any tips you could provide. The goal yesterday was to maintain good quiet posture (Balswick)while moving the arms into brush with the side.

Was expecting to see a 15 year old that took a few years off. LOL. Only advise I'm going to give you is- Make sure she has fun and find something you believe in and work at it. Set goals but not big ones to early. A dad recently told me that his goal for his 9 year old was to make a TB team and then make the MS team in 6th grade. He is the starting SS and will be a great player. Dad said he wanted to set goals that he knew he would make in his early years but was a big deal to his son. Thought it was really smart. I'm a just do your best type and not very goal oriented but

Today she tried working on maintaining good hip and upper body posture and angle and catching the brush.

Hips are at 45. Good work.
Now notice her back foot drag in the inside of her foot. You want to drag and finish laces down. Get that habit early. She doesn’t need a ball to work on that.
And again be diligent with her arm finish. She is flipping the hand up not internally rotating and working Inward. That will take time. Here’s a s idea. Have her hold a ball, stationary at 45 and ball at 9. Have her drop her arms without trying to throw. Hold onto the ball. Let the elbow contact the hip and arm follow through naturally. It will naturally roll to palm in or palm down. When she feels this it may make sense. She is forcing the release. This technique is a let it happen tech. See how that works.

I have a question. Does the finish matter, as long as you get the initial inward rotation and working inward?
