Did you read the SI article?
I try but what I can't understand is how there are those who insist on how they are doing something, even though there is clear video evidence that it's not what they are doing at all. And then they show it and teach it wrongly to others.
It's as though there's a conspiracy to prevent those guys from being toppled from their lofty perches.

And then there are those who insist on what's happening in a swing in spite of there being no video or pictoral evidence to support their claims. They use terms like "kinetic chain" and "neuro-muscular" because they think it makes them sound smart. They think because the human body is involved, physics is somehow different.

Reminds me of the guy who asked me why softball coaches don't teach power hitting. I said it's because a) they dont' know how, and b) they don't think it will work because softball is different. He then went into a huge monologue about how kids and especially girls don't have the neuro-muscular ability to execute such high level moves. In spite of the fact that he asked the question after watching my dd crush ball after ball in a batting cage next to boys that he was coaching who couldn't hit the baseball as hard as she hit the softball.

Those are things I can't understand.
Can you?

Bobby, did you play ? Once you get into a fyb hitting position the barrel is whipped down..

Another guy trying to eliminate the loop to come from below.

Does this make sense ?

Still play and coach. Still find myself feeling like I'm swinging one way when in reality the feel isn't real. Always checking the video, and asking asking others what they saw because I was focused on the ball and not looking at myself.

I remember Ted Williams saying that if he tipped his bat more upright it created a bigger loop in his swing and he got more under the ball. Sano had a nearly vertical bat tip (along with the extra movement that caused him to start late) so balls up became difficult. Makes you wonder what speed pitches he was practicing on. Physics says if the ball is in the air a shorter period of time it falls less so you wind up swinging under the ball.
I don't see how the change in mechanics could have a direct affect on his swinging at balls out of the strike zone. If there's a mechanism for that, please share it. He stopped trying to hit everything.
Another Williams quote, "Get a good pitch to hit."

Peabody, the pitches didn't fall like he thought they would so he aimed above the ball. No mechanical change necessary. Hitting is a guess. An educated guess, but a guess nonetheless.

What are you saying.......the barrel is whipped down to the ball or is it whipped down in the back and then back up like the Nike swoosh?

WTH is FYB anyway?

Yes, the barrel is whipped accelerated down and then levels off before going up.. FYB = forward yet back.. IOW's the hitters core is stretched against a leveraged lower half including both legs. Once leveraged the hands are pulled on.

Notice how TTB creates the forward yet back tension and separation, .....loads the core while the swing is created.
The downward motion of the bat is counteracted by the power of the backside so that hip extension (glutes and hamstrings) powers the swing.

Bobby, how does ttb create the fyb tension and separation ?

You move yourself forward and accelerate the bat rearward.
Try the move that DiCarlo is doing and you'll know what it feels like.

Sorry, I know she's a good player but not a fan of her vertical barrel path. Do you see any other great hitters who force supination of the rear forearm to create the vertical barrel path ?
