This is 18U. Unless there is a serious issue where the player's health is at risk (or something else significant), the player needs to handle the conversation.

It's 18U but the girls are not 18 per the OP.
Even if they were, I would have the talk with the coach, but that's just me.

This coach sucks at coaching, period. Parent do not lets your DDs at any age be screamed at and berated by a coach like what is being described. This is unacceptable behavior. Very poor coaching. Thank God he is losing games. I hope he never wins another game as long as he lives. If you would not like your DDs future husband to speak to her in this way then dont allow a coach to do it now. Leave the team as fast as possible. Give the coach a parting gift. Like a book on coaching. Maybe Tony Dungy book, Quiet Strength. Hopefully this caveman can read.

Lakewood CA.
I have not (and probably will not) spoke to him about this. IMO it is to far gone. I have not spoke with other parents (but I did hear one mom say she hopes he has a heart attack from all the yelling and screaming).

It’s just a tough decision to leave a club without having someplace to go but I’m pretty sure that’s what it will come to.

If she's still looking for a college to play ball for, this is a rough time. Showcase season is upon us. Good luck.

I understand what 18U means. At that age and level of play, they should be able to - and are expected to - have conversations directly with the coach about issues. This would include informing the coach that they will be leaving the team, if that step is determined to be necessary.

This is a total shot in the dark, but...

We've often heard about college coaches who want to see how a player reacts to failure: striking out, giving up the big hit, making an error. Is it possible that this coach (assuming he has some experience at the 18U level) is trying to give his players an opportunity to show their mental toughness? Maybe he's not just crazy, but crazy like a fox

Good luck either way. If your DD is a 16 playing catcher on an 18U team, she's probably got some skills and good catchers are always in demand.
