Guys,

I've been reading concerning I/R and feeling the whip. I've read some suggesting Skipping Rocks, etc. I want to know your thoughts on the sock drill to get the feel for whip, Is it beneficial or useful for a beginner? Also, how important is Brush Mechanics in the beginning. From my understanding is that brush mechanics is required to promote whip, because it slows the upper arm down to allow the forearm and hand to accelerate through. Is my thinking correct? Also some say it should not be taught at younger ages. I'm still having DD do the Lock it in, etc. also.

Check this out. Maybe you’ve never seen it. Couple whip ideas.

Take your time with this process. It's not all going to happen in a month. :)

Yes, whip is critical. So is Brush Interference. Did we teach our DD these from Day 1? Probably not. I remember talking about whip well before BI.

Cape Cod Mass.
If you do the 'lock it in drill' correctly when you move up to sling shot brush interference should happen naturally. If the elbow leads on the downswing BI should occur, I've never had to teach it but keep an eye on it.

Thanks, I do realize its a marathon not a sprint, If you know anything about me asking stuff on here from the hitting forum, I'm really asking this stuff for my own benefit and knowledge. I usually do not add stuff all the time. Its usually a little here maybe a little there. that's mainly why I asked about BI. I appreciate all the tips so far from everyone.

And I can't see how the weighted sock drill will help.
That's why I'm asking about it. I've seen it suggested to others when searching through the forum. The only way I can see it helping is that you could not throw it properly if a player is bowling the pitch. A player has to create hand lag, which only happens by leading with the elbow. I equate it to hitting. In hitting we would say elbow drag. In hitting its a bad thing, in pitching its a good thing.

Whip, brush, and posture all go hand in hand. Prevent the monkey butt early in the process.

I like two knees throwing into a tarp or net. Buckets and buckets of balls. I’ve found that when learning it’s helpful to start with the ball back at 9:00 with Palm up and lead with the elbow down to the bottom of the circle. Stabilize the body, don’t let shoulders/head/chest move. Throw through the body, not around it

This is most certainly something I have told her about.
