Yeah she wasn't in the mood. But I'm hard-headed and a dope. Showed her video of her at-bats, talked about positives and the load early/slow stuff, and she was rolled her eyes HARD when I gave her the bat. But afterwards you could see her excitement and positivty after she felt it and saw the positive results.

I'm glad you're here and open and honest and vulnerable, Pattar. While I'm worse, it's comforting to know there are other monsters here ; )
Overall I would say I am worse, there are various categories that go into that rating system and I have you by a country mile in the "yell at your kid then swear at the umpire for protecting your kid and then throw a water bottle which elicits a visit from the popo" category.

Awww, thanks, guys. I'm such a nit-picker, that I reviewed the video again this morning while kids were getting ready for school, and got hung up on her rear elbow leading the way. But like Eric said, just one thing of many to work on, and yes, she is ahead of the curve for her age.

What I get encouraged about is our discussion afterwards - before bed last night we talked about the early/slow load and why it's important, I had her pick up a wiffle ball bat we had inside and threw an indoor-safe ball and had her loading early and holding and waiting to explode. She only swung about 3-4 times but she was getting the barrel out on time and driving, so we ended on a positive note about how it's beneficial to her swing, and we just need to put it in action on the dirt.

I think we all nit pick our kids swings. I know I do at times. Just gotta know that the things take time to fix, some longer than others. The issue with the elbow, seems to be to me a sequence issue. She is like my DD that she slots before stride foot is down. Notice how her foot is still in the air and she is already slotted. Instead of the proper sequence to separate as they are getting to foot plant. The only other issue is trying to maintain the shoulder level to downward angle to the ground. The shoulder angle would probably be corrected by proper sequence in separation.

Hey, to be fair I've heard of lots of people listening to things they WANT to accomplish while they are sleeping. Something about your brain still listening subconsciously. Might be worth a try. :D
So yeah, you were one of the wiseasses I was talking about

I SERIOUSLY caution you to not be relentless with your instruction. I know you are excited to see her develop and improve, but you can end up doing more damage than good in the long run. Worst of all, you can make her hate the game, or get the idea that her being successful at softball is the only way to get your approval.

Respectfully,
A dad who made mistakes

You got me there - and I love you for that ; )

Be careful with this. We don't want all-back/all-forward, but we also don't want a shift-then-swing. Over-correction of one easily leads to the other.

Thanks for this, Clems. Working on downward angle for front shoulder is something I constantly keep forgetting to work on. Gotta keep that rear scap pinched while striding out and hopefully that corrects the elbow issue. As she pinches she lowers front shoudler and BAM, magic. ; )

I hope it is BAM, Magic for you both. I wish I could say that for my DD :sneaky:
