Has anyone had experience with the Wilson Pro Stock legs? They look very similar in form to the All- Star System 7s, but I haven't seen them in person yet. I'm curious to hear what people think of them.

My DD has joined a new team that requires all Wilson gear. I've found a couple of ProMotion chest protectors in the right colors for her team, but it's looking like we will need to go with the Pro Stock legs and helmet....and mitt (DD is heartbroken about that issue).

Does the gear have to say Wilson, or does it just not have to say anything else? (i.e. can you “unbrand” the glove?)

So frustrating! DD belongs to a club that requires Wilson as well...however they are giving us one year to grandfather in...so she can continue to use the glove she has for a little while. Her catchers gear is Wilson - she has promotion legs and chest but they are the wrong color - but they are still in great condition and since she doesn't catch much any more I'm not buying anything new. Are they requiring Demarini/Louisville bats too? I know some of the teams in DD's club do require that - but DD's coach says he is not going to enforce it. Sorry - rabbit trail - I know this wasn't an answer to your question!

I'm not sure if "unbranding" is acceptable. The org policy is all gear to be Wilson-family products.

Batbusters

The glove thing is pretty ridiculous. Is this a common thing for travel teams to require at the upper levels???

This is a standard policy of the Batbusters org, at all ages. A few years back, it was Mizuno. There were a bunch of unhappy parents who were being required to buy new gear even though they weren't new to the org. From what I can tell, there is some variation from team to team in how strongly the policy is mandated by the coaches. I will be getting together with the HC in the next couple of weeks to talk about timeline for equipment changes.

A lot of other org have different policies. For example, So Cal A's require that each team spend a certain amount on Easton products. This is pretty easily covered with batting helmets and bags. Easton also offers a pretty decent discount on their gear for those who chose to buy more. Some TB orgs do not have a gear brand mandate.

Yes. Demarini/LS bats. Last year, this team got free LS bats. I'm not sure if that will happen again this year. DD is not happy about having to give up her Ghost.

that is insane, to me, if you are going to only allow girls to use a certain brand, the brand damn well better supply it free of charge.

It's not only a requirement use a particular brand, but also to buy the products through the org. This isn't a push by the brand, it's a money-maker for the org. If you don't like it, don't join a team from this org. I'm not a fan of the policy, either, but it was a compromise we were willing to accept in joining this team.

I agree, it is insane! But from my understanding here on the East coast, the majority of girls playing in the Batbusters organization WILL be recruited and get committed, so in the big picture the Wilson brand thing will just be an aggravating bump in the road! Still sucks somewhat..........for now! ;)

Congratulations to you and Maddie both!

but who does this restriction to one brand help . . . not the players unless it is free . . . . not the parents . . . . oh that's right, it helps the people making $ of the players and their families. obviously the restriction comes with a price, and it seems it aint free gear, so it is money right into the orgs pocket. instead of taking money, why not contract with Wilson to provide free gear for X number of teams a year, but those teams must use wilson?
