Like I said I didn’t hear the whole story just a snippet here and there.
I said hire a coach with name recognition this guy cane to mind because he has been successful everywhere he has been.
Sounds like you have some skin in the game here WW. I wasn’t there don’t know who did what. Situation had been resolved. Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone.
Always respect people's opinion and giving people a second chance....but sometimes you just have to put your foot down and take a stand.

The only skin we have in the game is making sure our daughters have a safe environment...this isn't a tough coach just yelling at players...if you have not read up on it please do, then come back and see if you still want to give him a second chance (and this would be his third or fourth depending on how you want to count). Granted none of us can cast the first stone however no matter how much you are forgiven there are still the consequences to be paid and for better or worse this generation of the Meyers family will never coach girls softball again...

I wasn’t suggesting he get a 2nd chance. I was simply stating it would be nice to get a Coach with a winning pedigree and name recognition. I used him as a reference to his effectiveness at multiple schools in multiple sports. I didn’t say I wanted him or that he deserves a 2nd chance. I think his time has passed for multiple reasons.
I will say that I read the ESPN W article and from my perspective the eldest son was responsible for the hostile/uncomfortable atmosphere at the school. Clint certainly doesn’t have appeared to have done anything to improve the circumstances. So that makes him at the very least guilty by association and indifference.
As I remarked previously he was the head coach and everything should be run through him. He is accountable to his players & their families.
My understanding is this was not just the softball program but other sports programs as well. So shame on Auburn for allowing such things to occur on their campus.

This is exhausting.

He isn’t effective. Don’t even go down that road. He is a FAILURE.

He isn’t guilty by association. He is directly liable. He is directly responsible. There is no wiggle room. His kids bad acts are ON HIM.

Nope, he’s a failure.

If he wasn’t a failure he could speak this winter at the NFPCA coaches convention. Whoops, can’t do that.

If he wasn’t a failure, he could broadcast commentary for college softball. Whoops, can’t do that.

If he wasn’t a failure, he could be interviewed about his national championships. Whoops, can’t do that.

This dude can’t even wear his rings to a restaurant. Know why? Because someone will google his name and find out how many times he has managed to screw up a great thing and hurt people in the process.

Here is where I’d normally say “I’d go on but you get the picture”. You don’t get the picture though, do you? Feel free to respond with six more paragraphs of back tracking and wagon circling.

Just like Urban Meyer. As long as they win. .. ...

Absolutely not. Programs should be run ethically and held accountable. I was speaking to past results before scandal.
Some idiot morphed thread into his own crusade against the Meyers.

I just think it’s really important not to glorify coaches in any way whose behavior does not adhere to high standards. Winning doesn’t justify bad behavior. Unfortunately, there are more out there than just this guy.

We can do better than clowns like that.

DFP is loaded with smart, accomplished people. Pretending that a scumbag coach wasn’t as big of a scumbag because he won some stupid softball games can’t go unchallenged.

I don’t expect casual softball fans to know the history. What I DO expect of DFP is to not let ANY poster make long posts that minimize bad behavior or revise the history of a bad actor.

Bad behavior can not be tolerated. It can’t be minimized. We let this crap go on too long.

Unfortunately if you don’t win you won’t be around long.
Doing things the right way takes patience, intelligence, and the ability to do more with less. EVERYBODY needs to play by the same rules.
Once again this post was about hiring a successful coach with big name recognition to jump start a program. Wasn’t intended to be a sounding board/soap box for opinions on what some of you say disgraced former coach.
Ok done. Next post on a new topic?
