Does anyone have any info/comments on Uconn’s new hire Laura Valentino?
I read her Bio but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Honestly I was hoping for a high profile coach. Like the guy who coached ASU and then Auburn a few years ago. Had success wherever he has been. One of his sons on Staff got in hot water by dating/harassing players. Drawing a blank on the name.

Clint Meyer.

He won’t be coaching anywhere and there are good reasons for it.
Yeah I know there was a scandal a couple of years ago at Auburn. He put Auburn on the SEC map after winning multiple Nat Champs at ASU. Also did well in coaching baseball.
Not sure on specifics that went down at AU. Just know he had couple of sons assisting him and at least one had complaints about him from players.
I would hope the old man wasn’t involved but ultimately his responsibility to make sure things like that don’t happen in his program.
I was referring more to his success with multiple programs and somebody with his experience & expertise.
I would have settled for Sue Enquist, Patty Gasso, Tim Walton......

Clint Meyer. He won't coach ever again in college and hopefully never again ever.

uConn is one of those "never really won much' D1 softball programs. They have never overly invested in it. There isnt enough there right now to get a name really.

I have met Laura a couple of times. This is probably a stepping stone job for her to something bigger down the road. Been a quick ride up the coaching ranks to a D1 head coaching job.

UConn was good years ago. They have been to WCWS in the past. Also have/had HOF coach and former player coaching at NC.
They are investing 20mil in softball facilities. It worked for AU a few years ago. Of course they also doubled the coaches salaries.
I understand what your saying though not the most desirable job last 20 plus yrs or so.
I was hoping with the facilities upgrade they would try to launch with a high profile name. Not going to be the case.
I think they went with Laura due to her experience with Duke and starting a new program.
We do have some good talent. Need more pitching as most teams do. Always tough when you have to play 1st half of schedule on the road due to cold weather at home.

Couldn’t care less how many games he won. His name is a black mark for Auburn and ASU.

A scandal? Um, yeah.

If UConn hired him, 1) there would be protests. 2) social media campaigns. 3) the athletic director would be fired right after he was tarred and feathered.

Do you realize that he completely enabled the victimization of young women like our daughters?

Like I said I didn’t hear the whole story just a snippet here and there.
I said hire a coach with name recognition this guy cane to mind because he has been successful everywhere he has been.
Sounds like you have some skin in the game here WW. I wasn’t there don’t know who did what. Situation had been resolved. Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone.

Yeah, you REALLY need to read up on that before you make the above statement.

Madbandit...where have you been the past couple of years? You should watch more softball on TV. LOL!!! The Myers family debacle at Auburn and AZ was the most discussed event the past several years. Just sickening. Besides that, Uconn will not hire a big name as it's not a premiere softball landing destination for coaches probably ever. They are ranked 120th out of 297 D1 programs according Massey Ratings. What big name coach is going there?

I heard Meyers was going to coach Epstein's softball team if he gets out. They both deserve each other.
