Woodstock, man
Vlad jr shortening his swing with no stride approach with 2 strikes against... will technically there is a little stutter stride
My pitcher son loved it when he saw non-MLB hitters do this. Now their timing is off, they have signalled they are beaten, and the ball can't go far. Almost a sure out.

Plus, I have posted before an MLB chart that shows 2 strike counts are approx .150-.200 lower BA (as I recall) (and similar slugging pct) than any other counts.

We've already had this debate before, lol. Yes I seen your chart. 2 strike count the hitter must broaden the strike zone, that cannot zero in on a pitch location or pitch type. Of course the hitters BA is lower with 2 strikes against.

As per your chart it's almost always a sure out regardless if the hitter modifies their approach when down 2 strikes against. Majority of hitters do not modify their swing when down 2 strikes. Vlad defied the odds with a good piece of hitting. Maybe more hitters should do this!

That was a brilliant piece of hitting by Vlad Jr.. simplified his swing and took the ball the other way for a RBI single. I don't know what makes you think the ball can't go far because he altered his swing from stride to no stride

As a pitcher I would hate to see this.. it would piss me off.

I wish you luck with this approach. I truly do. You will need it. :)
My name is not Vladdy jr.. :). It's not my approach, but I do like a simple yet effective swing. For a lot of kids, no stride offers this and they can have much success with it.

Let's address some myths about no stride
  1. No stride is a less powerful swing - Not true, proper mechanics can be achieved in both stride and no stride leading to a powerful swing
  2. No stride is for younger kids - Not true, older kids and college level hitters use no stride
  3. No stride is for less athletic kids - Not true, but it can be helpful for kids who struggle with balance and body awareness.. and fear of the ball(stepping in the bucket type hitters)
  4. No stride is an "all back, all forward" type swing - Not true, same sequence can be achieved with No stride as stride
  5. Stride helps transfer weight - Again not true, many amateur hitters take a false stride and do not transfer weight at all. With proper mechanics weight transfer will occur with both stride and no stride
Maybe it's different in Canada, but I see very very good no stride softball hitters having a ton of success every weekend. I can see that there are many posting on this site as well where their DD's are having success. Also in the steps you provide to help hitters with their swing(very helpful btw, I've used this myself to help my own DD), this sequence can be achieved with a no stride swing.

She doesn't have much shifting or what might be considered weight shift. It is a nice swing.
I don't think weight shift has to be big, at the end of the day everybody wants to get to that idea launch position.. it can be done without a big weight shift. In a lot of cases where kids sway(took that from RDB), a swing like this might be a perfect solution. I think some elite hitters have bigger movements because of timing.. not power. Then you have other hitters like Molitor , compact and simple

But he still manages to get here
