This happened last year when they were in 7-8 Dixie youth allstars league.

2 out situation. Bases loaded. Ball hit on ground to 3rd baseman. (kind of a slow hit) Girl picked up the ball and tagged the forced runner heading to 3rd instead of stepping on base. 3rd base runner has stepped on home before force tag was made.

The ump ruled the run counts due to our fielder tagging the forced runner instead of stepping on base. Ruled that it no longer was a force out by not stepping on the base or something.

we protested, they made phone calls held the game up for 15 minutes. They stood the rule. Next day, the ump came out their with his chest all puffed out, trying to (lay the law down) before the game even started. He was out for blood against us before the game even started. Part of the problem that weekend was he was umping with his girlfriend who was terrible and i think she got booted from umping that game.

Still a force. Runner was forced to advance. Has nothing to do with the tag or step on base. However, the tag must be accomplished by touching the runner with the hand that is holding the ball.
I once had a runner tagger with the glove while ball in bare hand while going from 1st to 2nd. Umpire said that since the runner was in a force situation it was like the fielder using her foot to tag the base while the ball was in her hand. NOT! (non-protestable rec game)

Stories like this make the umpires I encounter look like geniuses. It's incredible that anyone could get paid to be so incompetent.

You have to understand that SOMEONE has to umpire these rec league games. While the pay is the same as an 18U National Qualifier, or a "showcase tournament", many experienced umpires don't want to be bothered with them. So those games end up with inexperienced umps, or worse yet, bad umps. No different than a comment made in another thread about "know nothing" moms and dads coaching these 8U teams. If they didn't volunteer, there'd be no 8U teams for your kids to play on.
