Hello my daughter is 9 1/2 and has started pitching last year. She is struggling with accuracy. She has pitching lessons every other week. I also work with her and have experience as a pitcher myself. She is having difficulty with accuracy. Im here for some advice anyone may have. She walks a lot of batters. Her mechanics completely change in game situations. They are pretty good for a 9 year old during practice. Here is a clip of her in game today. Ill post another of pitching practice tomorrow. See how she steps back during wind up for some reason and turns her drive foot at push off. Also she is leaning and what i call "bowling" her back foot at finish slides to the side. Sometimes i think the ball even rolls off the side of her hand at release. She is beginning to hit batters often. I almost want to pull her. She needs the experience and to work through her game anxiety. We practice for an hour almost 5 days a week. She enjoys pitching, but when a batter is there its like she is a completely different pitcher.

*cant upload video dont know why its saying doesnt have an allowed extension?

Years ago somebody made the Bullpen Buddy to try and address the problem pitcher's had when they went from practice to games.

Whenever I take on a new student I always tell the parents control is the last thing to develop. She's going to walk and hit a lot of batters before her mechanics become consistent.

Thank you.

I remember my DD pitching coach telling me if she only walks 15 in a game it's a good day. I was standing there like what are you talking about. LOL

If I had one piece of advise when working with kids 10 and under and teaching them proper mechanics it would be spend almost all of your time working on the outside corner.

Bottom line is throwing inside with proper mechanics is easy, because it’s basically natural. Throwing outside and maintaining proper mechanics takes work. Once she’s proficient at throwing outside with proper mechanics her control will improve dramatically.

My dd turned 10 in April. Hit batters and walks combined is just about 2 per inning. Some innings none, then she'll walk 4 the next. I think (hope), that this is not to far off at this age.

Oddly, she has a much easier time hitting the outside corner in practice than the inside.

I wish my dd's coach would join this forum. We work at lessons and at home on staying low and hitting the outside corner but he constantly tells her and the other pitchers "throw strikes" and rewards the one girl who just throws down the middle with more mound time. Apparently it doesn't matter that teams tee off on her as long as she throws strikes.

Woodstock, man
constantly tells her and the other pitchers "throw strikes"

I love the psychology of coaches who yell out 'throw strikes' during a game. The hitter knows the next pitch is likely going slowly right down main street.

I would randomly yell out 'curveball', then watch the hitter start wiggling around, prior to their strikeout.
