This thread might fall hand-in-hand with the 'motivating your daughter' thread...

Anyone ever pay their DD for play ?

I've never encouraged a paying job and I expect work in and around the house to be done when asked (mow the lawn, dishes, litter boxes...).

I am thinking of it more as a lead in to what life is like for adults. Adults are paid for results for the most part.

At a local field that we sometimes use for BP, there is a light pole about 220' from home plate. Since the age of 9, I have told my DD that I will give her $100 if she hits the pole. It started as a joke, but she's held me to it for 5 years. She almost got it last time...

Otherwise, this is her game, and her journey. I will buy her gear, pay for dues and instruction, pay for travel expenses, etc. I will not pay her to play the game, or offer monetary rewards for performance.

I made a deal with my daughter that she gets ice cream every time she catches a fly ball. Didn't catch one in 8U.

Caught two in a 10U tournament in the fall, and 1 last week in a league game.

Good thing I like ice cream too. Also told her this is only good through 10U, after that it needs to be a spectacular catch!

But other than that one incentive, we don't do anything like that. If she wants to play, I'll get her there, coach, take her to lessons, etc, whatever she wants. But if she ever needed to be "paid" to play, we'll find something else to do.

I have a running offer to DD, HR (OTF or inside the park, but legit, no errors, she understands) is worth $100. When I give her BP, $20 if she can break my nose. never had to pay up on either yet, but hoping to someday on the first at least.

[Older DD, she is GK for FH, for indoor court hockey (high scoring generally, shutouts rare), I tell her if she can throw a clean sheet at a tournament (4-5 games) she gets $100, just so they both have something to shoot for. Also $50 for assist in indoor (played on BB court basically, so that is feasible if unlikely). sadly for FH, there is no possibility of scoring as a GK ala Hextall, even indoors.]

Ice cream is good at any age. Especially if you can always find a qualifier.

Let me see:
Cannot play ball if she doesn't get enough sleep. Paid for her bed. Check.
Cannot play ball if she doesn't eat. Paid for her food. Check.
Cannot play ball if she cannot get to the field. Paid for the car which transports her. Check.
Cannot play ball if she.....

Should I continue?? :p

I do team goals for a tourney. Fouls balls $5, farthest hit of tourney $20 at my discretion (say tough pitching and farthest hit was a grounder thru infield, or say a girl only bunted all tourney which is rare).

Last tourney DD hit a 249 ft bomb (only know this bc it was a 250 fence and it hit base of fence, so a guesstimate) but my 3B with time expired, home team, down by one, no outs, runners at 2 and 3 - hit a triple to win the championship. This awesome kid says "DD hit it a lot farther then me i didnt earn it". So i split the $20 between them.

Haha. I offered my kids a dollar for every 15 minutes they dribbled a basketball on their own. Not one dollar was paid out. I learned 2 things.:

1. My kids are over privileged, and apparently have no need for money. We've since redesigned the purchase order approval in the acquisitions department of the household.

2. If the DW or I spend our time with them while they practice, they do it willingly and happily.

Now I just need to become independently wealthy so that I can spend every waking minute with the little darlings, and my problems are solved.

DD gets a "prize" for getting a hit at a tourney.more hits, bigger prize. Shes easy though and never wants more than a $10 item at walmart. I offer any kid at BP. Who hits me through the pitch through $5. Paid out twice.

When C was playing 10U the coach announced loudly that if anyone hit a home run he’d take the whole team to Dairy Queen. The next batter hit an infield single but just kept running. The other team was so confused about why she kept running that they never gave the ball to the pitcher so she scored. He bought the whole team ice cream.
Same coach also told them that if they went undefeated all summer they could paint his nails and he’d keep the nail polish on for a week. Guess what he had to do at the end of that summer.

I’ve never paid my kid but she does love a good challenge
