I want to know your guys opinions. Yall have been really helpful. Considering having my daughter who is 8 try starting from a neck slot position. Mainly to help here learn for now to stay more connected. Are there anything things I should be looking out for? This is her with a foam bat just to see what she would do with it.

Maybe it's the lack of bat weight, but only on the first swing is she really keeping the bat on her shoulder - the other swings look like she lifts the bat off fairly early.

Still a great looking swing - are you concerned her hands are coming forward too early?

Not really her hands coming forward to early, although she does do that sometimes. Its mainly her hands tend to work upwards above the shoulder, therefore the bat fattens out. I'll see if I can get a picture to show what I'm talking about.

I think it is a virus that gets spread to 8 and 9 year olds at 8U/10U tournaments...yeah..that is what I am going with.

In terms of the neck slot, I would just have her actually just swing from the neck slot to start with, e.g. like Brett.

She can then perhaps progress to something like DiCarlo who starts with it there and then lifts out of a bit like your DD is trying to do.

It is a virus, like elbow drag at this age LOL. There is a parent on her team that takes a lot of pictures of the girls batting. I would say close 95% of them all show the hands stacking and the barrel flatting out and elbow drag on basically all the girls. At least on live pitching.

I think the neck slot would give her a better starting position for her hands. I think also that its partially a sequence issue also, but at this young it a tough thing to grasp.

As you have probably seen, my DD flattens before she even launches. Her barrel path for every pitch is basically designed for a high tee drill LOL.

That's to funny. I also am hoping that it will teach her to not let her hands and forearms drift away from her body therefore becoming disconnected. Does that make sense?

Some think that swinging from the neck slot promotes not powering the bat with the arms so yes it should help with that IMO. Epstein had a deltoid drill which was somewhat similar to this (not as good IMO) which he said promoted keeping connected.

Not crazy about that open stance at her age. Will have to get moving early in order to time the pitch. Love her elbows positioning.

I understand the concern. We have talked about that very thing a lot. She has worked really hard, on getting moving early enough and does a good job at it. Coach Pitch and the times practicing hitting off of another Girl pitching.
