I wonder how many players who left Oregon did so because Mike White left along with (theoretically) any chance of winning the oh-so-elusive national championship. If Lombardi is at all good at recruiting she'll be able to recruit some pitchers for next year.

I completely expect the Ducks program to rise again as Coach Lombardi recruits the kind of players she wants, and that want to play in her program.

Didn't Oklahoma have more pitching depth to rely on, though? Oregon is in a bad spot in that regard.

I was going to say the same as Reagansdaddy....Lombardi has been through the protocols. Yes, they are squeezed for pitchers but I have a hard time believing she'd sacrifice the kid but then again, I can't say.

Sure seems like some of the issue up there is that there's a new sheriff in town with a new set of laws that some players (and their parents) don't want to adhere to. Entitlement and attitude can stir up a lot of trouble in a program.

From what McGrandle's father has said, she went through 3 weeks of protocols, but still couldn't stay through an entire class, and was still having headaches. Based on my experience with my DD's concussions, it sounds a LOT like this was not long enough for this concussion. The standard my DD has been through (3 times) was headaches COMPLETELY gone before returning to activity. He also said that the concussion issue was not the only reason for the decision. That said, none of us really know the full story.

McGrandle wasn't part of the Coach White program. She was brought to Oregon by Lombardi from Texas A&M this year.

Why would you expect a player not from Oregon to have any loyalty to Oregon. Seriously doubt she grew up wanting to be a duck.

Oregon's coach can fix her transfer problem by recruiting Oregon talent that grew up hoping to be ducks.

Both of my DD's have traveled to the Pac NW area for tourneys and love the area. Each of them (Juniors) have also said they'd love to play for Oregon. ; Wish we had more knowledge about the "other" circumstances or issues that are causing so many to jump ship. Lombardi has been around long enough under a strong program to know what works and what doesn't. Certainly there's an adjustment period for her as well and I'm sure she'll figure out how to deliver and enforce all of her expectations to the players.

My DD feels the same way about that part of the country, especially Oregon. Her focus for picking a college will be in that area.

My kid is growing up in So Cal. She has a stronger desire to be a Duck than a Bruin, even with the Bruins being the current #1 team.

Lauren Burke not only grew up in Oregon, but in Eugene. Even that wasn't enough to keep her at UO when Coach White left.

Your continued assumption - no, insistence - that everyone wants to stay home is simply wrong. There some that want to be close to home. There are some that don't. Deal with it.

The Ducks are in survival mode just to not go 0 for rest of the season at this point. Jordan Dail appears to still be very happy but she can't carry the entire workload.

I've been pretty impressed with Dail, but you're right. She can't do it all herself. Good place to build from, though. They have a few others I'm impressed with, too.

Exactly, if a kid who grew up in niketown doesnt want to wear green and yellow with a big ZERO on her chest and helmet, why would girls who grew up elsewhere want to?

My DD has grown up in So Cal and she doesn't want to be a ruin either, she wants to go to Pepperdine but if they don't start a softball program in the next 4 years she will probably go to Santa Barbara or USD
