Is the screwing done clock wise, rearward?

For a RH hitter it will be clockwise. Toes being turned back to the catcher from either side of the plate. Of course, the trick is to grip in with the foot to prevent the weight from rolling to the outside edge of your foot.

Thanks I wanted to get the opinions of others because this action changes to internal rotation. Just wanted to make sure we are talking about the same action, screwing into the ground (rearward).

I'm in the camp that IR of the rear leg is continuous. There is no transition. Look at the Brett clip again. The hip joint never changes its orientation. All that happens is that the resistance holding the rear leg from turning the torso forward disappears right after launch.

Right, that is why I wanted to talk about screwing into the ground rearward/clockwise. I wanted opinions on this action and the IR that takes place. I wasn't sure how others interpreted the screwing into the ground action. and the IR.

Justin Stones post on this shows the importance of ground force reaction pretty good.

Could you explain this more. How clockwise screwing of rear leg and how Internal Rotation takes place?

Why the double peaks in bat speed? Do you have a link to these plots? Were these the swings of an amateur?

It is his swings…so yes..one could say amateur swing! :)

Its on his blog site (which is really really slow loading on my end) under role of the legs in baseball swing

Not sure if the plot is associated with the swing he has posted or not. Definitely slows the bat then has a big pull follow thru. IMO

The screwing in is a result of the entire torso coiling around the rear leg. Chipper Jones once said something to the effect of his rear leg feeling like it was staked into the ground. The rear leg will "brace up" with an IR application to resist getting turned rearwards. The foot will feel that and get screwed in. The rear leg's IR force will bind the leg to the pelvis (your hip joint). This bind should be continuous throughout the whole swing process.

Thank you. When I attempt to click on the link I obtain a security warning.

Wasn't able to access the link. The swing graph doesn't look very good. The post impact peak bat speed is actually higher than the peak occurring at impact. Resembles a late push-like mechanic. Amateur swing.

Its a members area blog that comes up and shows that whole article on mine. Not sure why.

Agree. I can't tell where he slows before contact on the first plot... watching the video. He lets go of the bat with one hand and is also in socks on the stable swing video. Not sure if the plots and swings shown are correlated or how he chose to post them.
