A class 12U that I have seen the last two years. Around 52 is average to above average. 55 is hard and only a few. One girl hit 58 is the best I've seen and she no hit us. They only had one other girl that could start for us but no hits and no walks equals o runs.

We have a girl in our area on the flo list top 10. And let me tell you she is all of the real deal and more. I heard about her when DD joined the org a few years ago. Then I saw her pitch.. It's like a cartoon.. unreal. Something that I've never seen before.

I know who you’re referring to and she’s the real deal no doubt. I’m sure there are some kids that are everything the rankings say and more just like there are kids who are overhyped for the sake of drawing attention to the organization or student athlete for recruiting purposes.

What sucks is that there is no margin for honesty. It is painful for me to talk speed since I give honest/accurate numbers and it's always going to be compared to someone else's juiced numbers.

I've worked with 4 new kids in the last couple weeks... In all 4 scenarios the kids parent told me she was 60, 55, 55, and 52....
The 60 was actually 54, the two 55 were 48/49, and the 52 kid was about 47.... every single one of them inflated the numbers and I don't understand why they'd lie to me... I'm a coach. Did they think I wouldn't gun her?

Jryans dd, who we'll call "Ryan" is the real deal. Lefty with a really good curve/ change combo... will add a lot of value to what ever school that lands her!

We have played many of the pitchers on the 2021 list that is out floating around. I would say there are several that can hit 63 or so and of course someone is going to let go of the perfect pitch and get it up to 65-66 some. Real world observation from talking to coaches about our team. Our #1 faced off with an amazing 2021 lefty from Indiana last summer at Scenic City. The girl had half the Big 10 there watching along with the MAC, ND, and several other Midwestern schools. She was the hardest throwing pitcher we faced all summer and topped out at 62 that game. Ours #1 hit 63. These numbers came from the Pocket Radar used by a MAC assistant coach as we discussed players on my team. The 63 consistent through the game is top 10 or so she had seen from a 2021.

Would our #1 hit 63mph every time she pitched? No way. She was having a great day and everything worked. Typically she would be pretty dominant and cruise around 60 or so. I have no doubt there are girls on this list that have legitimately thrown 65 or higher but like others have said it was for one pitch and not consistently. When our #1 was around 57 consistently during our first year of 14U she hit 62 on three consecutive pitches at ASA Nationals but there is no way she could do that on a game after game basis.

Fastest kid we faced last year at 14U national level was the kid from Ohio outlaws that's committed to Washington.
That kid has great stuff.
Second best was a girl on TN Fury.. had a few SEC schools looking at her including Kentucky I think.
We faced 9-10 SoCal teams including the top tier As and Batbsuters and we didn't see 65+.
The gal from the outlaws was 63 easly.

Similar situation - second year 14u team playing Williamsburg Starz 16u National facing the 18u Starz National pitcher, a 2021 committed to Virginia tech. During a rain delay the Starz coach indicated she cruised at 64 and I believe it. We lost 1-0.

Seeing that gives me a good barometer for coaches and parents who say their pitcher is throwing mid 60’s. You can just tell the difference. It’s special to watch.

In most cases I don't think these are lies, just very thick parent goggles. Their DD probably did hit that speed, once, maybe while doing walk thrus, but that sticks in a parents mind and allows them to justify it.

They also might not be using their radar gun correctly. Probably not Radar Grandpa bad, but they could be doing something that slightly inflates the numbers. They may have no idea their numbers are off.

Yeah, there is a pitching coach in the area who will post pics of himself and his students holding up their pocket radar readings. I’ve seen two of the girls throw and he posted their readings as 67, 65, etc. I kind of thought to myself, wow, they really had me fooled! Their HC (a friend of mine) told me that their PC posts the readings he gets from walk-throughs on turf.

I’ve seen a few girls where they hit 60+ on turf but then were unable to break 60 when clocked on dirt.
