Right Here For Now
Moving forward with the pitch and what you posted is not mutually exclusive.

With all due respect Q, to a certain extent it is. Even one step forward on the pitch can limit your SS"a range by as much as 3 feet along the periphery of the outside edges of fieldable balls. Try it for yourself. Have your SS play one step behind the line and hit a hard grounder across 2nd base. When the ball actually crosses the base, have her stop and mark the furthest point she reached by her front foot at the time, whichever one it is. Now, have her play on the baseline and do the same thing. You might be very surprised by the difference.. There's a reason Auburn put the hole hoops on each side of a player as opposed to in fronthe of them. Now, if you're talking about a slow roller or attacking the ball hit more directly to the player as opposed to being more off to the side of them where they may have to range further, then we are in agreement.

Auburn hop?....
Always assume that pitched ball is about to come towards you!!! and then have a plan as to what you're doing with the ball... basic stuff here

I’d suggest giving your #2 and #3 pitchers more innings. It’s not doing your #1 any good to dominate everybody she faces. Let her come in when the game is tight so she can learn her to pitch under pressure. I’m guessing you’re worried about ticking off her parents. Other than easy wins, how is pitching her every game helping the team? Worst case scenario, her parents pull her, but that helps your players develop. Best case she learns to be a leader in and out of the circle and you guys can play at a higher level next season.

coach had them stand (or fidget, move from one foot to another, she told them whatever was comfortaable, but had them stride into ready position (ie but down, hands out front, etc.) a full stride behind where they would set up if playing static, so when they took the stride, they ended up right where coach wanted them. pretty simple concept really, and easy to tell if someone is falling asleep out there, as they would not move with rrest of team.

That’s how I interpreted it as well - I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone moving forward continuously on a pitch vs stepping forward but then down into a ready position (i.e. split step, hop, etc.)

Derek Jeter says he believed the ball was going to hit to him every pitch. Then when asked what happens when it is not, he says, he was more certain the next one will. If you can get the fielders to think like HOFer Derek Jeter this will all fix itself.
