I haven't read this entire thread, but I think one of the problems is you are not quite understanding what bat drag is. Bat drag is not the elbow leading the hands, which seems to be the popular definition these days. Bat drag is dragging the bat like a wet mop through the hitting zone. I think a lot of kids have been instructed to make sure their elbow is not leading to the detriment of their swing.

Is this "pushing"

I understand the similarities to throwing, but try to throw something without your elbow leading your hand. That would be push.

The front arm pulls, the back arm must push out does it not? With force.

And i must add, most youth will Throw the bat at the ball. Very strong swing, sometimes they can even hit the ball.
Unfortunately, the elbow leading the hands is call bat drag (in most circles))
This image would be the proper way to throw the bat,

UNless, you just throw with your body, and your arms and hands are doing something else, and then no bat drag

Hing angle and bat lag are way over rated. Moe Norman, one of the best ball strikers in golf, casts his club head to the ball from the top of his swing.

Short hands video. i just spent time drawing dots on swings. There are some issues with this video, and what he wants done. It appears to be relative to pitch locations and swing adjustments, (offspeed),

Kinda goes back to launch and guide, or barrel dumping to soon.

"to generate more barrel speed during the initial pulling phase so that their ‘push’ into impact is replaced with more of a ‘release"

I like pull, throw, release.

Ok, do the muscles in the hand and forearms fire? then release? does grip pressure change throughout the swing? Some golfers (Couples and VJ) actually have their right hand barely holding or touching the grip at impact.

BTW, the golf swing is a arm-bar cast type swing. And they do have some amount of club drag where the elbow is in front of the hands. Different golfers cast at different times. Some from the top. Some hold and then release. Both can be successful. And a lot of it has to do with their grip pressure.

So another question for FFS. Would you best describe the softball swing as releasing from the top or hold off (lag) the releasing?

thanks very much Rolling, so many voids to fill in my understanding. i talk to my friend a golf pro about lag quite often, and he likes the elbow leading also. Since he says it is a very important component of the golf swing for speed, i am assuming it is important in the baseball softball swing also.

I was not suggesting golf swing is the same as softball swing!! That's why I used BTW. The only thing they have in common is that the core/torso is the main engine. I would never promote bat drag but I am ok with a little club drag and even in golf it can be over done.

FFS would you please answer my questions? I am not asking you because I want to argue but because I value you thoughts.
