Okay- back story my dd hasn't quite reached her potential hitting and we've just switched some things up (thanks to this site and helpful posting and some private responses). She just turned 10 so i havent expected a lot of power. she's always had good timing but had been flipping her wrists for some unknown reason. So for about a week or two she's been working a few days a week trying to fix that and get arms extended and get under it a little. Went to practice tonight and she left her cf zen 29/18 at home. She used her aluminum easton 30/13 cage bat while hitting live pitching and she couldn't get the damn ball out the infield with it. Granted she's never been driving the ball out consistently anyway. Coach grabbed a 31"/?drop cf8 and had her choke up. First pitch was a bomb that came about 10ft (guessing) from clearing the fence. Everything after was flying off the bat faster than anything i've ever seen from her. I was floored. I hope like hell it's from the work but i suspect the bat pop was the culprit. Coach said he babies that bat. Anyway just thought i would share and see if anyone else has seen such dramatic difference.

side note- took her to a well recommended hitting coach in april who trashed demarini and composite bats in general. He suggested her to an easton crystal which is basically the same bat she has as a cage bat, only newer. Didn't make sense to me.

I suspect that it all has mattered.
1) the work IS paying off
2) the CF8 balance / weight AND choking up helped get barrel to the ball better than your cage bat.
3) yes, there is a big difference in performance of the bats.

As for your hitting coach, I understand some people have issues with Demarini business practices. But if he trashes all Composite bats, I am guessing he thinks they give a false sense of ....success, accomplishment? These bats have a HUGE sweet spot, and sting dampending.

Those CF8's were fire. I was so bummed when my DD broke hers. She has the CFX now, but doesn't seem to have quite the pop the 8 had. Explains why so many of the college girls are still swinging the 8's

Think it boiled down to the fact he's an old school baseball type. Though he seemed straight up at the time he also tried to switch my son to an Easton.

... my dd hasn't quite reached her potential hitting .... She just turned 10...

This ^^^ made me LOL. I'm glad to hear that she hasn't reached her potential. If she has already reached her potential at 10yo, something is really wrong, or maybe softball isn't the sport for her. ;):D:p

The CF8 is a very good bat, and probably the best of the CF-series in recent years. That said, my DD switched from her formerly-beloved CF8 to an Easton Ghost, and the CF8 has been relegated to lessons and USSSA tournaments.

Well I meant her potential as a 10 year old. She's got a lot more power than what she's bringing. She was not mechanically sound. I figured most would know I wasn't expecting her to be hitting like a college level player. Lol
I've seen cf8 in got game and top gun tournaments in our area

In my observations, very few 10yos are "mechanically sound" in any part of their game, or make full use of their power potential. This is pretty normal stuff at that age.

Yes but it was in context of explaining she's never hit that distance and trying to validate either better mechanics, really hot bat, or both contributed to almost doubling her typical distance.

Edit: and yes that is normal of 10year olds not being mechanically sound. That was my point so readers would understand she's not a kid to hit that deep.

I get it. I apologize if I can across as trying to knock you (or your DD) down. That wasn't my intent at all.

Maybe it's the bat. Maybe it's the recent work. Very likely, it's some from each that magically came together in that moment. What you may see happen is her swinging harder because she wants to make that happen again :)
