I watched it about 9 times and slowed it frame by frame. It is not obstruction for all the previous reasons. The runner never deviates. In frame by frame the catcher is in possession of the ball when the runner's foot contacts hers.

With all that said, if I had to watch it 9 times and slow it down, I'd happily accept the umpire's ruling either way. That was a heck of a call, & he got it correct, in real time. Well done ump!

What the catcher is doing wouldn't be allowed at any other base. Runner doesn't deviate or slow because there's nowhere to go after home.

(Excluding NCAA) It's not obstruction until the moment that the progress of the runner is actually impeded by a defensive player not in possession of the ball. If the runner does not deviate or slow, they are not being impeded. Being in the path of where the runner will be in the future is not obstruction.

Blocking th plate is nothing if the runner is never impeded prior to the catcher possessing the ball. To have obstruction there must be some hindrance of the runner prior to the catcher having the ball.

That's garbage.

You are saying that a girl has to run full speed at a catcher hoping they get out of the way at the last moment. All of our girls won't truck a catcher and do slow because they don't want to make contact. This is the same logic that causes the no interference without contact that only encourages injuries.

Off topic but I would not want my catcher removing her mask - especially with contact at the plate imminent.

No, the runner has to make an attempt to avoid the catcher in order to get the obstruction call. "Hindrance" means the runner had to divert her path.

I said absolutely nothing even remotely close to that.

Slowing down is being impeded and should get the obstruction call.
