I actually watched his tapes this weekend. Curious to see if many people have implemented his material and used it successfully. I thought some stuff he does to teach hitting (drills section) is interesting.

I am probably opening a can of worms...

LOL yeah you are. It has worked well for me at all levels. I've contributed a little at high level D1, a lot at D3 and all levels below. I'm sure Scott will chime in and I'm sure Tom will explain he disagrees.

I should add the dvd's are basically an introduction to help you understand the website where the real work gets done. Buying the dvd's gets you on the private side of the website. You two should have a phone conversation some time. Make sure your cell battery is charged. He's as passionate about hitting as you are about training.

The drills have worked well for the girls that I work with. It is great to see someone that has been struggling and you finally see the light come on!

I can say without hesitation that the man has a passion for the material unrivaled by anyone that I know of. That being said, his material is not a cookie cutter - 1,2,3 method. It will be unique to the individual as he will offer support up the wazoo.

I have learned more about how to teach and perform swing mechanics from him than anything else I have viewed or read. His explanations and examples match up to what elite athletes do. That is the ultimate litmus test.

The hurdle to overcome is that what he teaches requires you to relearn, reprogram how you do things. So, it feels wrong and there will be resistance and maybe even frustration. You gotta stick with it and do as he tells you (I know this sounds sort of weird). But, when you get it or when your kid/player/student gets it, it will be a "Eureka" moment.

And to piggy back what Mark said, I can attest to Steve killing my cell battery more then once.

Marc, I consider Steve a good friend. I use his philosophy and drills with my girl. Please note that the what he teaches is not a technique. It is more of a way of measurements, of training the muscles to perform, of looking at a swing in a different way than a simple 1,2,3 approach. My daughter and her team have done exceedingly well. My D was the MVP of two tournaments this past summer, hit for a high average and power, and started as a freshman on our school's varsity. Marc, the bonus to Steve's DVD is that you also gain access to his private site. Go on there after you get access and take a look at the video section. That is a gold mine.

If you have not talked to Steve, get ahold of him and do so.

Englishbey-a treat

Steve Englishbey has been a treat to work with both through his website and on the phone.* He will be coming to our place in January and work with our hitters one-on-one.* This is the unique thing about Steve, he will hop on a plane and come to "wherever you live" and spend a weekend with your players!!!!I know I've only "understood" about 10% of what he has taught me through his DVD's and website, but what little I've understood and adapted to teaching some of our players has helped them develop into very confident hitters who can hit the ball hard nearly every time, even against GREAT pitching...this to me is worth a ton!!
With Steve it's not a wham, bam, thank you M'am type of instruction, it is a process that takes time and effort, on the part of the player and on the part of the instructor(s)(the local coach and Steve thru his website) and the "journey" can lead you as FAR as the player wants to go with an ELITE level attainable if the attitude and work ethic are there on the part of the player.

Just my opinion!!

There are a couple of hitting instructors that I have met in my lifetime that have the insight and knowledge then can back it up with proof when it comes to hitting.

I use Steves material with my kids as well as Howard Carriers material. Howard is Crystal Bustos hitting instructor. He doesnt have video or anything out there to sell but the man is very knowledgeable of how to hit a ball. They are equals in my eyes but different in the way they describe how to hit a ball.

They are both excellent in the way they approach hitting and there is very little difference between the two with the end game (Solid contact and hitting a ball hard) other than terminology. The interesting part of this is that they have both developed drills and methods to help kids get better and they are not the same drills. Yet their methods both have had a high level of success.

Steve is the first instructor I have found who has drills that will help a player understand how to create the proper swing plane/path to the ball and be consistent in the strike zone to make solid contact. Howards drills do the same thing but they are not the same drills. I have been fortunate enough to have used both instructors material. I have also worked with both personally.

Steves stuff is more physical in application and detail and I would have to say that Howards is more mental in application and detail. The key word being DETAIL. Neither of them leave a stone unturned when it comes to the detail of hitting a ball hard. By that I mean Steve will go into infinite detail on how to perform a specific movement of the body during the swing were has Howard will talk about feeling what the body does during the swing sequence to create a balanced position to swing at the ball hard. Both promote an upward swing plane much like you see with any high level swing in the game today. Softball or Baseball.

I have put both of these methods together for my students and I am getting some great results. The combination of the methods really helps my students get better faster and its starting to show in the results. It is in a word the best of both worlds for me as an instructor.

I have always sought out the best methods of hitting for my players and now my students. Not sure I need to keep searching any longer thanks to these two guys. That is how sure I am of their methods. Both are in a word Exceptional in there knowledge of how to hit a ball.

Elliott.
