Anyone have any DD's go to these Slapping Clinic's.
Slapping seems like it's going the way of the Knuckle ball throwers. Give me some feedback from the camp/clinic.

Hi Ksphenom,

I'm not much good to you for that camp info you're looking for...

But, what I can tell you is that the ability to slap (LH batter) will always be one weapon in a player's toolbox. Trends change and cycle over time, and you're seeing a power period. Just like pitching, if a player is multi-dimensional and great at it, there will always be a team for her to play for. Bunt, slap, power...absolutely strive for excellence with her full array of skills. Minimize the K's, maximize the production.

A quick story...I was a youth travel AC, where the HC focused full effort on power. In theory, it sounded great. In practicality, it was a mistake. Averaging 10k's/game doesn't increase team production, player development or club confidence. To my point...you have to crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run. Practice and develop every skill in the toolbox. Help to build productive hitting skills, and train consistency. ;)

We had great feedback on the slappernation we attended last year in kc. Good instructors, solid instruction, camp was very focused around the customer. We had an Olympic speed instructor that was a BIG hit with everyone.

Let us know what you think if you decide to go. DD has wanted to do one of the camps, but nothing is ever very close to us. She looks at stuff on their facebook page quite often for tips and drills. DD went from slapping or bunting 90% of the time two years ago to about 5% of the time now that she's found a little power. She still works on it at home every week, but for some reason her coaches are hesitant to slap unless she's leading off.

She loved the clinic. With the size of the group it was 2 players short of another teacher she has lined out to help her.
It could've used a second person to help her to be honest. My daughter decided to burn the bridge and turn lefty full time. More power for her from that side!

Best thing she could have done to help herself. I see too many parents and coaches who want to give up and have their DD switch back and forth. These girls never really mature into proficient slappers. The parents/coaches don't understand the learning curve of doing everything in reverse as well as adding new skills to the mix. It's a 3 year journey for most kids. The first year is getting the basic mechanics down. The second year is learning the timing and new skills. The 3rd year is learning how to use the different skills against what the defense gives them.

Years ago I had a 10U team with 3 girls who were starting to slap. Played a team early in the year. The girls were struggling. I overheard the coach talking to one of his coaches wondering why I still kept them slapping. We played them again late in the summer. My slappers devastated his defense to the point he was screaming at his players because they couldn't get them out. I just smiled to myself.

She's a Phenomenon. She can swing the bat with more power from the left side and even though she was judged in the USSSA future's All American tryouts with straight 5's across the board going righty I can't wait until next year for her to do it again from the left side. :)
