Just learn to turn the barrel. All in with the hands when it's time to go. Stop trying to get forward. Get the barrel around as fast as your hands can do it.

The solution to all life's problems :p

Seriously though, I offered My DD's 12U coaches some videos to see if they were open to it. Today they introduced turning the barrel to the team. We tried replicating the wall drill using two tees next to each other, (they were the tools we had.) It's gonna take some time and patience. One of the dads asked what we were working on. I gave some background. He explained how his daughter sees a former SEC player who says she became a better hitter when she stopped hitting like a boy and started hitting like a girl. He proceeded to show me how she teaches to push the knob to the ball. I guess we agreed to disagree.

Core needs to activate. To do this you need to get the lower half out of the way while the top half stays back. Keep the rear elbow back and behind while the front knee opens slightly towards the pitcher. Stretch. In the gif you can see the front foot plants then turns. Have the front foot plant in the position at the end of the gif, be careful not to open the knee to the pitcher too early. Unstretch from the ground up. Now power the upper half with the core. Stay through the ball, get the bat off the core powered merry-go-round towards center field. Work on this and see how bat path changes, this should get rid of the lead arm blocking action and you will see the lead elbow working up, which will allow extension to center field and not down around the waist.

Im not a good teacher (or learner ha) so it took a long time for my DD to learn. Looks like you have the athlete and plenty of time left. Keep working, be patient and good things will happen!

Sometimes you simply have to give your student a simple objective like you state here.

MY guess is she does not swing like this versus live pitching. Maybe but your eyes just won't see the ball well...even though she is open she hunches over, elbow up head down. My guess is if she rotates her head up to see the pitch it will naturally bring her elbow down a little. This would definitely be one of those wanting to see against BP or live before giving a real opinion that was worth anything.

very true.

I just don't have a lot of recent live at bats.
But here is one from September, from behind:

You are correct, not as extreme hunch over or high elbow...
But this is only one swing. Hard to base a lot of assumptions on one swing of the bat.
Need top get more live vid.
Maybe I can get someone at the indoor facility to film a little,
when I throw her front-toss? Will try this week.

Looks pretty much the same as the tee swing. To me....

For one the downward bat/barrel path to the ball.

To my eyes she looks rushed in that game AB.

Poor kid ... she's putting on a seat-belt. She will struggle until she addresses the rear arm path.

Challenge for this girl .... get the rear-arm to pass through an upright vee ... 'power-vee'.

I see this young gal as being out of sequence.. Looks to me like 2 moves. She pulls back (loads the scap) and then swings.. The pulling back element some see is truly the release of up front stretch .. If the barrel is released behind her it will be allowed to pass through and create the change in barrel direction.
