You are right about not stopping lawsuits, MTR, people will sue no matter how careful you are. But I don't see that as the issue here. The real issue is, as many others have said, insurance. When the insurers say wear a mask or we won't cover you, and the alphabet agencies say you can't play without insurance, masks are going to be mandatory for corners and pitchers. And that day is coming. I personally think that the governing agencies want this to happen so they don't have to be the bad guy.

Far more girls are hit in the face during practice at all positions. If this happens it won't just be pitchers and corners, it'll be everyone. TBH I've seen far more bucket Dad's get hit in the face than pitchers. That's where the mandate should be!

I can see that happening but even the insurers will not go there without standardized testing of the equipment.

Great point. If the masks are not mandated for both games and practices this truly is nothing more than feel good window dressing.

It’s a lot like the heart guards. Nobody cares if they work or not. It just feels good making the kid wear one.

Unless the actual rule they have instituted has a lot more detail in it, from what I have seen so far all it says is the corners and pitchers must wear face protection and must be worn as intended by the manufacture. Talk about nothing but a feel good rule, there is nothing specifying what it must protect other than the face, it gives no specifications, it lists no manufacturers etc. Grandpa could go out in the garage, bend up some coat hangers, add some elastic straps and call it good. A grinding face shield from Home Depot is face protection, but it is not going to protect from being hit by a softball.

As MTR has indicated numerous times on various threads about facemasks being mandated, until someone develops a specification and testing procedure it is a complete waste of time. And then if and when they do come up with some kind of specification, all the masks already sold can be thrown in the trash.

DD wears face mask and she has gone to emergency room twice after SB game. She is still alive anyways and playing tonight. :)

(As far as I know, no ball has ever touched her facemask in 8 years or so)

One of my problems (I have several but they have been mostly mentioned above) with the Kentucky rule is that it doesn't apply to baseball. One of the proudest moments I've had as a father is when my daughter told me she didn't want to wear a face mask because the boys don't and she's a better fielder than them. Heck yes!

There's an element of this rule that smells of sexism and I don't like it one little bit.
