The WAC was owned by Fresno State for many years. Then, a couple of years ago, Hawai'i (what is the deal with that apostrophe, anyway? Geez...I never had to spell it that way in grade school...of course, Hawai'i wasn't a state back then, and if you said "mobile phone", they would ask, "A phone in Mobile? I think they got them there now...")
Hawai'i won the WAC last year.
This year, something different is happening. New Mexico State is currently leading the WAC. NMSU took 2 of 3 from Fresno State, and will play Hawai'i this weekend. That is another classic battle.
Why is the WAC interesting? Well, the WAC has won one more CWS than the SEC.
(As a full disclosure, my DD played for the NMSU head coach when she was at El Paso CC. Cat Heifner, the assistant coach at NMSU, is one of the finest batting instructors in the country.)
