I'm guessing some people here are not college football fans. How many Alabama kids are on Saban's roster? How many South Carolina kids on the Clemson roster? Etc. As long as colleges permit out of state students, athletes are going to be a part of that equation. And coaches will do their best to find the best talent for their team, regardless what state they are from. As a Penn State graduate, I know that they have a fondness for PA football players, and rightfully so. There is a great deal of football talent in this state. But they recruit from out of state as well. And I don't blame them. If the big boys are recruiting nationally, they need to do the same in order to compete.

Does this really need to be verbalized? The people arguing otherwise are just being silly and probably are doing it to get a rise. I wonder if they feel the same way about the recruiting practices of companies they own stock in..gimme a break.

Oh, yes...Now I remember this guy (DILLIGAF). He was the one who has been told that his DD could play D1 call, but neither he or his DD will watch college ball to see what that actually looks like.

Don't forget, won't watch any women's sports because women can't play sports.

Lol! Great point. I should just stick to the hitting forum where everyone is more mellow and understanding :)

Refusing to recruit local kids would be odd. Having a preference for Tier 2 CA players makes sense because they're still be better that 99% of the kids in PA or most any other state. It's not til you get down to tier 3-4 CA kids that local talent might be better.

I'm not so sure of that, I'm from California and Tier 1 players are going to ball no matter what state they're from. We've seen teams DD has played on get whupped by squads from Florida, Indiana, Washington, Texas, et al.

I think a large part of why California kids end up playing all over the country is that there's just so darn many of them playing ball. The state does have roughly one seventh of the nation's population.

I agree on a national level tier 1 players are tier 1 no matter where they’re from. I’m using it as it relates to individual states. Tier 1 PA, OR, MN or other non-softball states are generally equivalent to second tier or lower of CA girls.

I'm from PA, have been coaching softball for approximately 14 years, and would love to argue this comment. But the truth is, I can't. Yes, there are some very good softball players in PA, but we would have a lower percentage of those tier 1 players than some of those other states. Just how it is... Balint is a great example of an exception. We have a family friend that played at USF a few years back (phenomenal player) that could be another exception. A lot of it is just sport of choice. From what I have seen, if a college coach is recruiting softball players they start in CA and then go to FL, TX, GA, and other southern states. If someone is looking for a girl's field hockey player, PA is much higher on the list. PA is very high in wrestling recruits as well. Sports are very regional.
