I have read on here a few times that college coaches do not care about what your high school stats are and do not waste your time sending them to coaches. My DD is having an UNREAL start to her Freshman year and is starting to get a lot of attention from the social media posts. Some of the attention is from schools that already knew who she is for the most part. I would like to know if sending other schools who are out of our social media loop because of distance/location be a good idea. Her #1 school at this point is a few states over and will probably never hear of what she is doing. I am asking because I got the imprtession that it may be even frowned upon or not give off a good vibe to send high school stats.

My dd used to sent out "news links" from stories in the St. Louis Post Dispatch to perspective coaches as updates. I don't know whether it mattered or not but they knew how well she was doing as this was a weekly thing.

My 2 cents is that I don't think it can hurt. My question is who is keeping the scorebooks (garbage in, garbage out) and who will you be sending the stat information to? A lot of people say high school stats don't mean anything but then you look at every college roster with detailed information and they list the following type of HS information. This is UCLA pitcher (Soph) Rachel Garcia:

"HIGHLAND HIGH SCHOOL
Garcia was a four-year pitcher at Highland High School in Palmdale ... was named the 2015 Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year ... posted a 26-2 record as a senior with a 0.20 earned run average and 418 strikeouts in 175 innings, adding 20 shutouts, including 10 no-hitters and six perfect games ... she also hit .667 with 20 home runs and 57 runs batted in ... helped the Bulldogs reach the Southern Section Division IV Championship Game ... additional awards as a senior included Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year, Golden League Most Valuable Player, CIF Southern Section Division IV POY, CalHi Sports Medium High Schools POY and USA Today First Team All-American ... was a two-time Gatorade State POY (2013 and 2015) ... named to the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team, but was unable to play after suffering a left knee injury in the CIF Championship Game ... coached by Daniel Morrow ... was named a MaxPreps First Team All-American and Second Team Student Sports and Full Count Softball All-American as a junior, also earning Daily News All-Area, CalHi Sports First Team All-State, All-Golden League and Antelope Valley Press POY honors ... was 21-3 in 2014 with a 0.36 ERA and 325 strikeouts in 156 innings, while batting .492 with eight homers and 33 RBI ... during her sophomore campaign, she was 22-2 with a 0.50 ERA and 302 strikeouts in 139 innings, hitting .709 with 13 homers and 44 RBI ... played travel ball with Corona Angels under coach Marty Tyson."

IMO, the "look how wonderful she is" roster bios on college team sites are there primarily for the benefit of 2 parties only: the girl's proud parents (so they can be, you know, proud parents) and the coach (to show that he/she only recruits studs). I'm sure that most are more or less accurate, but some that I've read for girls that I know for my own daughter's HS and TB days are pure fiction.

Before you pounce, I am being a bit facetious here.

That said (and kind of sort of back to the OP question), I do find it odd that for a sport whose recruiting process puts so little emphasis on HS softball, those bios are 99.9% HS focused.

As far as sharing stats with target schools, it can't hurt (assuming you're not sharing her .156 avg and .290 OPS stats). My daughter wouldn't share stats, but if something notable happened that was caught on video, often by our local cable access channel that covers local HS sports, she would include those links in her periodic "touch base" emails.

I entered stats for DD’s HS team. She didn’t have anybody that knew how after DD graduated so I did it the following year too. Had a senior D1 commit batting .330 with a 3.8 ERA. She made all-state first team which seemed pretty fishy and when her college bio came out she batted over .400 with a 1.5 ERA. I pretty much lost all respect for this coach after that.

Which coach do you think cooked the books the HS coach who sent the info or the college coach who wanted her bio to look better?

I wouldn't say that college coaches don't care about high school stats. I just think they realize that high school stats are not the most reliable evaluation tool, for several reasons. It could be a high school that is playing against weaker competition. It could be a scorekeeper cooking the books. Etc. If DD is already being recruited or even looked at, season updates are probably not a bad idea (I like cannonball's idea with the newspaper links). But I doubt any college coach is going to look at high school stats and say "I'm taking this girl because she is batting .600 in high school while this other girl is only batting .550...." There is too much variation from region to region, or even town to town for that matter.

I can agree with that. I am really just talking about home runs, more power numbers than anything or maybe stolen bases allowed for a catcher, stuff like that. I know it is high school ball and competition will vary greatly but like someone told me the other day not every girl can put up numbers like that. He also said how does she compare to her teammates numbers especially if they are above average players. If the numbers are drastically different that says something even if it isn’t against the “best”.

I am a numbers geek. I always have been since a young boy collecting baseball cards and analyzing the stats on the back. There are statistics that I find important regardless of the level of competition. But there are others that are obviously skewed. But the most important factor is how that particular college coach views these things. DD knows where she is going at this point, so that stage of her recruiting life is over. Each coach she spoke with seemed to have different ideas and placed importance on different things. IMO that is one of the most difficult parts of the entire recruiting process. Every coach is different.
