James Madison, and to an even greater extent, Minnesota really got snubbed by the tournament selection committee.

The SEC is good and all, but these two teams are the real deal.
I really hope MINN eliminates their SEC host team Alabama this week.

JM is in Baylor's pool. Since they are not an SEC team, Ill just say: may the best team win. (and thats a really tough draw for Baylor!)

There is more to the selection process than the teams ability. The venue, location, and season attendance are all factors. Unfortunately Minnesota and JMU fell short.

James Madison got a good deal. Didn't they lose to Hofstra and Mercer? But they get to play in a regional where the host (Baylor) didn't necessarily deserve to host. So they should be happy, IMO.

Didn't they lose to Hofstra and Mercer?

LSU lost to PennSt. & Tulsa
KY lost to Pitt twice.
what's your point?

The only dig against JMU in comparison to some of these other teams is strength of schedule.
JMU certainly on the bubble, at best, to host a regional. But Minnesota? That's a serious snub.

But they get to play in a regional where the host (Baylor) didn't necessarily deserve to host.

I disagree. Baylor is a very good team this season.
They have the goods to go very far.

You're right. What I initially was trying to say was that JMU, while good, wasn't so good that they should feel put out by not hosting, given SOS and the teams that beat them. And Baylor, upon further review, is probably better than I thought. I think both are right on the bubble of hosting, so they're appropriate for the 16/17, 15/18, 14/19 group.

The hard part just like all college sports is strength of schedule maybe JMU was close but Minnesota was pretty bad...this was really just a Big 10 snub the committee just felt the conference was just not good enough this year.

Plus if the choice was between Univ of Minn or Alabama to host basically deciding between 16 and 17 the committee would choose Alabama every time given their history, etc. it might not be right but it is what it is. The problem was they did not see Minn as head and shoulders above all the middle/bottom of the SEC teams. But given the choice the did the best they could giving them the easiest regional they could #16, even if that means you end up going against #1 to get through...well time to prove yourself and step and beat Alabama

Not a JMU or a Minn fan, but ... it's the NCAA's RPI!

Have to hate pure politics in sports
