And then, how stupid is it to say in effect, ''We don't use the top-25 polls, except to see how many top-25 teams you've beaten.''
No, it's worse than that - they said they didn't use their own top-10 rankings, which had Minnie #7 a week before winning the Big X tourney.

From NCAA statement:

“Additionally, two regular-season rankings were released, however, the rankings are not used by the committee when determining the seeds and final bracket that was released yesterday."

From Hutch article:

What peeved Hutchins most were the committee’s midseason rankings, meant to use the same criteria utilized to determine the tournament field, which had the Gophers ranked seventh in the country just a week before the seedings were announced.

However, the rankings are not used by the committee when determining the seeds and final bracket that was released,” the selection committee said in a statement released Monday.

But the process to determine the rankings and the seedings were supposed to be the same, and the idea of the rankings was to give teams and fans an idea of where the nation’s top teams stood heading into the final week of play.

So when the Gophers were seventh as of last week, Hutchins thought they were in great shape to finish in the top eight, meaning they would host a regional and, potentially, a Super Regional. All Minnesota did in the week that followed was win the Big Ten tournament title, including two wins against top-40 RPI opponents Saturday.

If Florida makes it to Oklahoma, I would imagine that the complaints about Barnhill's pitching style will increase sharply. I think that the NCAA softball committee is going to be weathering more controversy before the dust settles. First, the Minnesota inconsistency - next illegal pitches.

I hope you're right but not holding my breath.

I'm hoping there is LOTS of controversy in the WCWS so the NCAA committee will have to finally fully enforce the pitching regulations every game or allow leaping like the men's game. Keeping my fingers crossed.....
