aka Silver Bracket (sorry, had to)

No doubt all of the big dogs will still make the field of 64, but this will give 48 more teams a shot at some postseason play. If your DD played basketball and her school did not make the NCAA tournament, but was invited to play in the NIT, would you her to go play?

I like the idea of a few more games. I wonder how/if this will fit into school budget's.

Interesting that every conference get an automatic...means all the smaller conferences that usually only every get one team in will get a second team playing in the post season.

Will be interesting to see if some of the lesser conference teams step up or if the 7th and 8th place PAC 10 and SEC teams rule the day.

and of course for us fans...it's more softball you can't complain about that...hopefully ESPN 3 will get more than just championship game.

Is it OK to say no? after 60 games and NOT qualifying for the Championship bracket, I would say its time to let the body heal a bit and get ready for next year. But if they want to shove 6-10 more games down her throat, why not? It's the school that gets to make the choice, not us or our DD's.

On a serious note, I am not all that opposed to it, but its really not for ME and not for my DD...... it's for the 5th grade girl (or unborn for that matter) who will have one more possible landing spot due to added funds to a schools budget. That is where the real benefit to this is.... the sport itself.

I wonder about that too. He said every school has to commit $12k to travel or host, so it sounds like they're collecting $12k from everyone and paying travel expenses from that pool. Otherwise, expenses would be very high for teams having to fly since first games are only 2 days after selection.

11 of the 13 SEC teams made the NCAA field the past 2 seasons, if not mistaken. So there wouldn't be many SEC teams. :)

My guess, though, is that the best teams in the next 48 are still going to be major-conference teams. Many teams that make the NCAA 64 are really not among the best 64 teams, but won their mid-major conference. If you took the legitimate Nos. 65-112 teams in the country, the mid-major teams might have a better shot, but some of those ''contenders'' will have fed into the top 64.
