Thanks for posting 29dad! Good read and she is an awesome pitcher and seems to be an even better kid from what I have seen!

I thought this statement from Gasso (OU) was very interesting and will keep an eye on it this season:

"I think that offenses are becoming more explosive and powerful, and they're being more educated and better trained," Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said. "To me, for you to throw as much as in the days of Abbott and Osterman and Ricketts and some of those big dominant [pitchers], you're going to have to be just a prodigy. You're going to have to be at another level, where people just can't touch you, in order to be used that much.

"Offenses are different now, where it's hard for one pitcher to get through a game. I think every coach in America would tell you that you can't have enough pitchers on your staff. I think the days of depending on one to throw every game could be over."

I think what gets overlooked with Cher is that is even a better kid(young lady) than pitcher. She was always the first at the plate when anyone hits a HR, the loudest in the dugout cheering on another pitcher and the first to lift up a teammate in a slump. Whether she is representing the country with Team USA or traveling to Panama to help build sport facilities she is truley a great role model for young girls. These are all cliches but they hold true for this girl, being a great pitcher is second to her as a person. She has earned and deserves everything she has accomplished!!

I wonder about this.

It seems that baseball in particular goes back and forth between pitchers and hitters having the advantage. True the last horrah for baseball may have been at least partially due to steroids but 2010 was considered to be the "year of the pitcher" (3 perfect games, 4 no hitters - 1 of which was in the play offs).

It seems as if, through advancement in tech and coaching knowledge, both are getting better but sometimes at different rates. I have no statistical grounds of saying this but likely the best hitters of today could beat the best pitchers of 15 years ago, and vice versa.

Thoughts?

I think both are getting better, but offense has a definite advantage. With the move to 43 feet and the hotter bats I think the offense has been given a rules/technological boost that no amount of training can overcome or catch up too. I am pretty sure that the overall pitching is better now than 10 years ago, and yet there are few dominant pitchers at either the NCAA or professional level.

And that last out there signing autographs, giving hugs and posing for pictures. Every kid gets the same, undivided attention.

Cheridan without her traditional eyeblack is an unusual sighting!

My DD had the same warm and welcoming experience with Ms. Hawkins. She's a class act.
