So Cal
With no one out I am surprised that Michigan did not have the batter take a pitch and have the 1B runner steal 2nd with no outs. If Florida throws to second they may get an out, but if the throw is offline or is into the runner, the 3B run scores standing up. If the runner is safe from that point forward you tell the 3rd base runner to go on any ground ball. Even if they throw the runner out at the plate Michigan would have had runners on 1st and 3rd again, so there is no reason not to go.

With Munro behind the plate, opponents have had less than a 50% success rate in stealing, and she hasn't made an error all year. To me, those kinds of odds affect decisions.

Munro is a great catcher, but with the tying run at 3B is she going to risk a throw? There are a lot of things that could go wrong and would allow the runner on 3B to score, including the runner sliding into to SS taking the throw. If I was coaching 3B in that situation and thought my chances of a good outcome were 50/50 I would take that chance. Worst case they throw the runner out and you still have a runner at 3B with one out.

You might be right. Defensively, there is also the option of throwing on the steal to draw the runner from 3B, cutting off the throw, and coming right back home.

This scenario is full of coulda, woulda, shoulda. The bottom line (IMO) is that Romero got stranded by doubt.

While your option steal 2B and at worst after it all shakes out you have a runner on 3B with one out....It puts them exactly where they ended up with Romero not going 1 out and runner on 3B they still have to hit her in and in this situation they couldn't.

First and third situation the runner from third always runs on a ground ball unless the infield is playing in. That mistake possibly cost them the WCWS.
If she gets thrown out at home Michigan still has a runner in scoring position with one out.

The difference is, with runners at 2nd and 3rd, the 3B coach should tell the runner to go home on ANY ground ball. No thinking, if the ball is on the ground GO. Even if she is thrown out at the plate you still have runners at 3B and 1B (2B runner advances and batter is safe at 1B). With one out I would tell the runner at 3B to go unless it is hit back to the pitcher or 3B.

I think this is probably where the mistake was made from coaching message and runners execution with SS and 2B playing back once the ground ball is by the pitcher you have to run. Also as others have stated I don't think I have seen anyone sooooo flatfooted at 3B as Romero was but then again it's one of those how much can you pile on the poor girl when you would not even be there without her.
