Ever see one of those during game interviews on MLB, usually its a starting pitcher who is not playing that day. It seems that most of the time he is being showered with sunflower seeds or similar. How can those professional players be so unprofessional, during a game? Maybe its OK with the coaches and the rest of the team because it keeps the dugout loose and happy.
Is it possible that this has gone on for years and we are only noticing it now because for the first time ever there are more than a handful of games being broadcast? ESPN broadcasts games for entertainment value in order to generate advertising revenue, and the target audience is far from those typically on this board. As long as it makes for good television and people are talking about it then it will continue. Step away from the altar and realize that what is happening is a very good thing.
