Someone else posted "The three players who left the team Sunday refused to shake the Oregon coaches hand after Saturday's game in retaliation for his daughter who was one of the 26 former and current players who were interviewed and spoke up about the sexual harassment and other NCAA violations." (see Post #36).

So am I reading this correctly? The three seniors that quit refused to shake the hand of the opposing coach after a game, and the reason may have been because his daughter testified in the case against the trainer, and may have lead to the previous coaches firing? I'm not sure I consider that "standing on principle", and I'm not sure if I were their HC that I would "have their back", but it seems the complete story is not really out yet?

It all sounds pretty confusing...in the end if the other coach makes a big deal and comes over to me screaming about how my girls did not shake his hand my response is "thanks for the input" and there is zero chance I sit my girls because of it, now that does not mean they don't run at practice or sit the next game but you don't cave into another coach and side with him over your girls while you are on the field. If my girls cross me during the game they know they will sit immediately but if it's something like this I am going to back my girls and get the story straight later, not make a heat of the moment decision.

I agree. With each new price of info it changes the whole complexion of this thing. The latest info makes them sounds like girls not standing with their teammates.

Assuming that's what happened. Info about the tone of this conversation was conveyed by someone who is clearly on the side of the Stanford players.

Putting yourself in the position of the Oregon coach, imagine if your daughter feels sexually harassed and has the courage to speak up or testify about it. Then her ex-teammates reject her for that, and they tell you what they think about your daughter by refusing to shake your hand after a game. You'd probably be upset, and you'd want to let the opposing coach know about it. If you're upset, it might come across as screaming at the opposing coach, when maybe you're just upset.

I'd like to know more about this episode.

Does anyone have any reliable information on this beyond an incredibly vague article from a local rag and an anonymous post or two from a discussion board?

In high-profile sports, the less you say, the more it festers because the media will stay on you. But this is just softball, so nobody cares enough to push for answers. Coaches keep quite, wish everybody the best, and it goes away.

Whatever ones thinks of Coach W at Oregon, the new Stanford coach benched the three for their actions, so she agrees with him. So there is no rest of the story or needing to get the story straight; these parties know the story. And Coach W's daughter had her college career cut short unfairly. The three players were simply acting childishly and impulsively, and there is no supporting them.

Are you privy to information the rest of us aren't? Has a legitimate source come forward to confirm they were benched at the demand by the Oregon coach for not shaking hands? How can you claim "there is no rest of the story or needing to get the story straight" when we have no idea what the facts are?

The 2 posts were what I regarded as the best information available for answering questions here and the links on both my posts provided access to the entire thread so others could read through it if they wanted. UCS has a lot of posters with inside info on many college programs - they are as reliable as the people on here (YMMV).

Besides the sexual harassment case, there were reportedly allegations of NCAA violations.

Current and former players in the Stanford program, along with their families, are clearly divided over what's transpired for more than a year now and the saga continues as some have taken further action.
